Mom Kills Children in S.F.
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 12:34 AM by Steely_Dan
Just heard on KGO (Bernie Ward) that a woman killed her three children by throwing them off the Golden Gate Bridge. Can anyone confirm???

Very Sad.

1. No
the story is that a person tossed two or three children into the Bay from Pier 7, sort of across town from the GG bridge. I hope the story isn't true - it's based on a single person's claim.

6. Only a matter of time before some right-wing moron says "liberal" S.F.
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 01:54 AM by kurth
Of course such heinous crime would never occur in Texas - woman drowning every one of her kids in a bathtub, or hacking off the arms of her infant child because the Bible said she should...

7. Right. Unless I'm mistaken, the last woman who heard "voices" and did this
was a full-blown Christian Fundie nutcase.

11. I heard on the news that she was schizophrenic
and heard voices telling her to kill them. Very, very sad.

But, if she had only listened to Tom Cruise and took 'vitamins', all would be well. :eyes:

23. Any word on whether she was known to be schizophrenic
before this happened?

And whether she'd been on meds before?

12. Tragic story
I don't know much about schizophrenia, could this have just manifested itself?

Those poor children. What a horrible end to their all to short lives.

The little boy who saw two of the children thrown to their deaths. I hope his family gets him proper mental health care.

The suffering the father must be going through.

Then there's the mother, I imagine at some point she'll realize what she did and have to deal with it.

Heartbreaking for all involved.

13. This was a totally preventable tragedy.
In SF County, the law is that if you can't afford psych meds, the County must pay for them. We have "Mobile" psych services that will go to your home and evaluate you if you are unwell; we have state of the art mental health tech and some very fine therapists.

But, the system is dysfunctional. It doesn't deliver the tech AND IT DOES NOT PARTNER WITH FAMILIES. When Doug was ill, I nearly got killed multiple times because the docs discounted my reports about him needing more serious care. His meds were improperly prescribed, barely monitored, and mobile psych would not roll out to our house. It was horrendous.

These children died needlessly.

16. My friends dad was diagnosed as schizophrenic and he'd been at Sutter
health for 3 weeks, the DA came in with a social worker and said he had to stay and the meds would be forced on him if he wouldn't take them, so 3 days ago he was released by Sutter, the DA didn't come back in and he is now free. He was arrested before he went to Sutter for assault on an emt worker, he bit a hole in the guys arm that was trying to restrain him and now he's out. this guy is going to end up killing someone.

17. I'm going to write to the Chron, to Newsom and to the Sups I know
We can stop this.

You know what's funny? The system always blames the victim. When Doug was ill, they blamed me for not leaving him and blamed him for being ill.

Bullshit.

i feel very bad for him and her family as well, she's so frustrated and hse's afraid he is a real danger to the public which i agree with and he's also a danger to himself. Right now we are waiting on a phone call from either the police or the county coroners office.

18. It doesn't when you consider that the very people entrusted
with providing mental health care discount the reports of family members, are themselves in need of care, and that we as a people still don't quite believe in illness that we have developed the tech to manage.

That's what boggles my mind. We have the tech and we don't get it delivered.
