Scooter claims Tim Russert was his source. Russert says Scooter is lying

http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/politics/12945036.htm

Libby's testimony stated that Rove had told him about his contact with Novak and that Libby had told Rove about information he had gotten about Wilson's wife from NBC's Tim Russert, according to a person familiar with the information shown to Rove.

Prosecutors, however, have a different account from Russert. The network has said Russert told authorities did not know about Wilson's wife's identity until it was published and therefore could not have told Libby about it.

Prosecutors also have evidence that Libby initiated the call with Russert and had initiated similar contact with another reporter, Judith Miller of The New York Times, several weeks earlier. Miller was jailed for 85 days before agreeing to testify before the grand jury.

Even if Rove, Libby or other White House aides did not knowingly reveal Plame's covert identity, the prosecutor could consider other charges such as the mishandling of classified information, false statements and obstruction of justice, lawyers have said.

4. I notice Russet has not been covering this at all for some reason?
He should take some time off until he can.

19. You may find this interesting:
"The Washington Post reported that Libby, who has been interviewed by the grand jury three times, learned Plame's name from a reporter, too. NBC News Washington bureau chief Tim Russert spoke with Fitzgerald under oath in August about a call from Libby, who gave Russert clearance to testify about their talk. Russert says he told Fitzgerald that he was not Libby's source."

2. How ironic that they are pointing the finger at long time WH stooge
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 06:24 AM by Kahuna
Russert. And you know what? It sounds credible to me. Russert has been way too chummy with this crowd. He has been carrying their water since 2000. I wouldn't be sad if Timmy gets indicted. It would send a loud and clear message to the rest of the media stooges who have gleefully usurped a fair and open media to support the shenanigans of bushco.

This also explains why the crowd at nbc/msnbc have been in smear mode against Joe Wilson.

9. But who told Russert....Miller?
Remember Miller's testimony that she was told in June that Wilson's wife worked for the agency.

10. Maybe Cheney?
Cheney and Russert are next door neighbors.

14. The VP residence is at the Naval Observatory
which is in Kalorama suburb of D.C. where Russert lives.

"Yep, that's right - both interviewer and interviewee live in the feudally exclusive Kalorama suburb of D.C., where houses START at around $1 million. In fact, on the same program, Russert had the arrogance to even mention how he'd seen his buddy out taking the air on his new "It" scooter."

23. Yes. Explanation for MSNBCs continuing smear.
Russert, Tweety, Mitchell all can't seem to learn the basic facts of the case. All were contacted by either Rove or Libby before the leak; it's almost as if the WH considered MSNBC the go-to network. All were called before the GJ. All would have a vested interest in learning about the actual details, but somehow can't seem to help themselves from repeating the WH talking points. Doesn't matter that Tweety has taken a harder line--he still repeats this or allows his guests to repeat the lies.

Makes sense. It's to protect Mr. Potato Head.

5. How would Russert give it to Libby? Am I following that? How
would Tim Russert know this info before Libby? That doesn't make sense.

8. Maybe someone else told Russert about it and he told Scooter?
The possibilities are endless. Someone is lying here.

12. Um, Scooter Libby? Lying? How could that be?
It is absurd to think that anything coming out of scooter's mouth is true.

"Tim Russert Told Me!"

Yeah, right. . .

20. That's right. My point is these guys live in a different world. They..
all think they are above the law. Tim is very chummy with bushco. Timmy has been very useful at helping the administration advance its issues. Just by having those liars on his show and not challenging their lies he's helping them in a big way. Why just this past Sunday he had CondiLIAR on again and let her get away with her bullshit with nary a peep out of him.

6. Might explain why O'LIElly said, jokingly?, they should arrest Russert.
He spewed that while being coddled by Katie Couric this morning.

7. Thing is, even if Rove & Libby didn't tell the reporters what they knew
(which I don't believe for a skinny minute) they had a responsibility to respond by saying something like "That's not something we can discuss, it's a confidential matter," and to then change the subject or terminate the conversation. To confirm, show interest or even discuss her job was a breach of confidentiality and should be treated as seriously as if they initiated the conversation.

They made it up, and now they're caught.

18. Will Russert help bring these bastards down now or will he be the
administrations lap dog again. This should be a wake up call for all those media folks who so willingly help the administration with their noise machine. They have no loyalty to anyone but themselves.
