Fineman: If Fitzie Issues .. ChargesCheney will beTarget ?
WE GETTIN TO THE GOOD PART OF THE STORY

"Fineman: If Fitzgerald Issues Conspiracy Charges, Cheney Will Likely Be Targeted

"Last night on Hardball, Chris Matthews and Newsweek chief political correspondent Howard Fineman discussed the New York Daily News report alleging that the special prosecutor is considering wide-ranging conspiracy charges in the CIA leak probe:

Cheney’s name has come up amid indications Fitzgerald may be edging closer to a blockbuster conspiracy charge - with help from a secret snitch.

“They have got a senior cooperating witness - someone who is giving them all of that,” a source who has been questioned in the leak probe told the Daily News yesterday.

The accuracy of the Daily News report is still unknown. But if Fitzgerald does bring forward conspiracy charges, Fineman says, Cheney will be in the crosshairs:

MATTHEWS: If it’s a grand conspiracy hatched in the vice president‘s office, how does he even logically exclude the top guy?

FINEMAN: Well, he probably can’t, which is why he is being very, very careful here.

1. Fitz' being very careful, sure! you don't want a wounded bull elephant
charging after you.

No one in their right mind would want Dick Mr. "Grave-itass" Cheney trying to put them in their final resting place.

2. it could be another one of the RW's ploys of near-disasters.
They'll point out how bad something will be (like a $600Bn deficit) and crow about successes (when it comes out as a $480Bn deficit).

They'll say Fitz wanted Cheney but could only get Scooter. Obviously, Fitz didn't have a strong case for the indictments.

But I'll keep my hopes up and maybe we'll get a trifecta next week.

7. Try this for some positive refreshment.
Fitzie is hearing about lots of deep dirt..you know that ground in variety that won't clean after 2/3 washings with the best detergents and even with bleach..

Some of that dirt accumulating since 11/00,9/11,11/02/04 and Lord knows how ole some of this dirt is..some dirt could be of the antique variety

"This morning's Los Angeles Times has an article regarding one possible motive for this action that exceeds just anger with Joe Wilson. There has been a long-running series of articles around the blogosphere regarding the tension between the WHIG/neocons and the CIA and other traditional intelligence gathering and analytical agencies (i.e. the intelligence arm at the State Department). (I am working on a series on this here and here.)

According to the LA Times:

Fitzgerald has learned about ongoing tensions between Cheney's circle and the CIA. According to a former White House official interviewed by The Times, Libby and others in the White House were incensed by Wilson's public criticism, in part because they saw it as a salvo fired by the CIA at administration officials, including Cheney, who was perhaps the most outspoken advocate of the case against Iraq.
Anger can be a substantial motive. But anger at being publicly criticised during an ongoing fued, in an arena where large egos are a standard issue can result in some very bad decisions. In this case, some extremely stupid and overreaching decisions -- with consequences for national security that we can't truly know from our vantage point in the general public."

4. has anyone else noticed
that in the last week or so all the Washington chatter has been Libby/Cheney/Libby/Cheney. Very little mention of Rove, and when he is discussed, the rumor is that the President was disappointed in him. Suddenly a lot of effort to put Bush over here and everybody else way, way over there, doncha think?

13. my money's on McCain to be the last Republican standing
I think he's been swallowing a lot of Kool-Aid and patiently waiting for BushCo to self-implode, and now he's about to reap the rewards, if inheriting the mess left behind could be considered a "reward".

11. Lots of rumors in the past 10 days of warfare between Cheney and Bush
camps.

Much like a nasty Rugby scrum...the Team B Terrorists and the Team Dirty-Tricksters head butting and gouging each other.

Since we have become a New World Fascist power an attempted coup at the top doesn't seem all that impossible.
