Mark Drolette: 'The law? The Bushies fart in its general direction'
Date: Thursday, October 20 @ 09:50:17 EDT
Topic: The Bush Administration

<...>

Look, this is the same crew that has: attacked a defenseless country, killed over 100,000 people, authorized torture, shredded the Constitution, rigged elections, looted the treasury, bribed the media, attacked labor, committed treason, singly served corporate interests, poisoned the environment, cultivated fear, lied about everything, etc. It is also the same bunch that criminally stood by for days doing nothing while Americans died on the streets and in their homes, using the Katrina-ravaged Gulf States as a vast laboratory in which to opportunistically conduct a grotesque experiment in the efficacy of martial law in the U.S. When Cheney characterized Katrina as an "exercise," he wasn't misspeaking (that, after all, is Dubya's duty); it was a Freudian slip, and there's a world of difference.

<...>

The Bushies are right now lining their dead ducks up in a row with continued mention of military "quarantines" in case of a hypothetical (or planned) avian flu epidemic. Although any excuse will do for ordering mass detentions -- frog swarms, national bad hair day, whatever -- what they really seek to prevent in America is an unstoppable, countrywide outbreak of severe critical thinking followed immediately by the afflicted aggressively excising the malignant assholes currently fouling the body politic.

<...>

This is why I shake my head when I hear otherwise logical folks say, yes, we know elections are rigged, but boy, let's kick the GOP's ass at the polls in 2006.

<...>

The thugs-in-charge have methodically cemented power and shut down virtually all avenues of challenge. This may sound cliched, but I fear only great violence will dislodge them. Readers sometimes tell me I should have more hope, and I actually do have one constant, overriding one: that I am unequivocally wrong.

1.  Boycott, boycott boycott!
Hit them where it counts. Every time you go to a restaurant or spend money on anything, the taxes or profits you pay are going to China to service our debt, to the pentagon to kill innocent people or the Texas Establisment.

Texas Establishment includes Halliburton, Bechtel, most oil companies, and the moneyed sons and daughters of the elite in Texas who have never worked a day in their lives.

2. Absolutely
I couldn't have said it better myself. More eloquently, perhaps, but not "better." There WILL be something terrible happening right around election time. You might as well plan on it. These people didn't stumble into office. In fact, they brag about it taking them 30 years to plan. Bill Clinton was a speed bump, and only cemented their resolve and made them realize where the holes in their plan were. The biggest hole was control of the election process. With that, combined with the sympathetic courts and sweeping Patriot Act laws, and the militarization of the police...it's folly to waste time on selecting "the perfect candidate." A thousand perfect candidates in a row will be meaningless if we have no true access to the voting system.

And right now, we don't.

5. The kind of defeatism doesn't help. Lead, follow or get out of the way.

7. Self-deception doesn't help, either.
Attack the real problem (non-existent democracy) or don't bother at all...

8. When you give up, like the OP, you don't even get as far as self-deception

6. We can only hope that the "fuck everybody, I'm out for me" and
"whatever the pastor sez, no matter whether we eat or not" segments of the 70% of the Repuke party that still supports these fuckwads are small and eventually sanity will break out among the rest, or great violence will indeed be needed. I think for a lot of them it's like finally winning the love of your high school sweetheart, only to discover she's given you the dripping clap and a baby that's not yours.

9. In related news: Iowans contact your State House Reps!
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 11:25 AM by CornField
Demand they pass legislation which requires auditable paper trails for our voting machines. This is the same legislation which was passed unanimously by the Senate during the last session, but which was stonewalled in the House.

More info available in the Iowa forum.
