Democracy Now! Amy Goodman's interview with Robert Fisk an Absolute Must! |
|
www.democracynow.org
There is no way to convey how powerful this interview is. Fisk speaks of the Iraq occupation and war, it will chill you to the bone. It also brought tears to my eyes.

I'm always a bit shocked that so few here seem to listen to or watch DN!
IMO, it is easily the best daily news show in America.

I just watched it several times over. astonishing. You know, the ending lines...sometimes you just KNOW people are talking from the heart, right? this was from the SOUL, some human soul we all share. kick and nominate. peace

4. Note that he mentions that one of the few journalists... |
|
... besides himself to venture out into Baghdad and the countryside is the reporter from the UK Guardian.
This was taped about three weeks ago, I think. If you look on the DemocracyNow! page today, that Guardian reporter, Rory Carroll, has been kidnapped (yesterday).
This may be what it takes for Fisk to give up reporting on the war. He said several times in the interview that he didn't know if it were worth it any longer.
Sounded as if the futility of it all was finally getting to him.

5. That was really something. Except |
|
Fisk thinks * did it for ideological reasons (RW Christianity or something). I think he did it to look presidential, to be a war president. Honestly, I don't think there is any more depth to this man (*) than that. Otherwise, wow, what a powerful interview.

certainly moved for reasons of ideology... bush himself? I understand your view of him as shallow...but, ideology doesn't require much depth. remember...God told him to, HIM specifically. peace

11. Yikes, it WAS a powerful interview! |

It's a haunting image of what is really happening in Iraq. The end of the interview was the most disturbing, especially coming from him. He is a great journalist who has been around a long time and knows his stuff.

13. Not real uplifting... |
|
...but people need to hear Robert Fisk. I don't know how he maintains his sanity after everything he's seen.

What gives you hope? "Nothing! Nothing in the government... maybe ordinary people but nothing coming from the government". That was depressing. *sigh*
Thanks for the link! I've never heard him before and it really was very powerful.

I was hearing a man who has seen more of wars than most anyone, and whose hopes have finally been buried along with the victims of Bush's war.
