Is Dick Cheney the new Spiro T. Agnew? Possible scenario......
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 11:53 AM by bob_weaver
Spiro T. Agnew indicted... Spiro T. Agnew resigns.... Nixon appoints Gerald Ford as VP.... Nixon resigns.... Ford becomes President of the U.S. without ever having appeared on my ballot.... Nelson Rockefeller appointed VP, just a personality away from the presidency...

Possible chain of events: Dick Cheney indicted... Dick Cheney resigns... Bush appoints (insert name of crony here) as V.P.... (or) ...immediately after 2006 elections, Dick Cheney "retires" due to "medical reasons"... Bush appoints (insert name of crony here) as V.P... thus, non-elected person becomes VP of United States... Facing possible impeachment over Iraq war, Bush resigns, thereby giving (insert name of crony) presidency of the United States, without ever having appeared on my ballot.

4. Ford-Rockefeller defeated by Carter-Mondale in 1976 election!
Unfortunately, Carter defeated by Reagan in 1980 election. :(

But this time it could be different. We wouldn't let the Republicans steal our debate notes and make deals with Iran to help throw our election.

8. Agnew didn't take down Cabinet members with him
If Cheney goes down because of a conspiracy to bring the country to war by falsification of documents..

We can expect that Rumsfeld will be toast too since his OSP seems deep into the forgery.

We might also expect that Condi as former National Security Chief will also go down. But may she'll pull her sweet ass out of the fire.

I think we can expect Bolton and Wolfowitz to go down.

And I would expect another round of uproar in the UK against Blair and his warhawks.

9. Two points
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 11:56 AM by maine_raptor
First, Ford pardoned Nixon which lead to his defeat and Carter's election.

Second, If Cheney did resign, Bush might appoint someone whose views on issues run counter to his right wing base. Why? Simply because that would insure that very few RW Congress critters would be desirous of replacing Bush via impeachment.

10. Don't forget the "nolo contendre" plea
that's what Agnew pleaded. A coward's plea that doesn't admit guilt, but says the defendant cannot contest the evidence against him.

De ja vu all over again.

12. The 'pukes could always put in Ford for another go
I'd be happy with that. He was more liberal than our last few presidents.
