While we might be on the verge of a great day... |

a victory for truth and justice, I still can't help but feel despondent. Because this day too, will punctuate a very dark chapter in America's history. Our country has become an agent of evil in the world and we have much work ahead of us.

1. Until we can bring attention to it we can't fix it |
|
This is going to be really hard on our country but we do have what it takes to make it better.

4. The country as whole needs to go about this in a different way |
|
than the examples you cite. For the most part, those events have all been swept under the rug, with the exception of 9/11 which is still an open wound. We need to really hold the assholes accountable. IMO nothing less than life time U.S. imprisonment and or international trials and a overwhelming overhaul of U.S. foreign policy is acceptable.
How close will we come to true justice?

6. I'm not so sure I agree that Watergate was swept under the rug |
|
Yes, Nixon was pardoned. But I personally think that was better for the country. He was gone, it was time to let it go.
I agree with the overhaul of US foreign policy, and add to it. It is damned scary how the faction that wanted this war was able to spin the data until they got it. If it can be proven that the administration was behind this, then they need to pay. (I personally think they were..whether it can be proven or not is another issue.)
I was going to give my stock answer and say I'd hate to see the country waste time and energy trying these men and women but I am rethinking that. I think that perhaps such a purge will cauterize the wound and restore us in the eyes of the world.

I was brought up with the belief that America was a shining star of justice. I didn't support the war in Viet Nam, and was free do do so. I felt pleased that a crook like Nixon could receive his due. Now, just after my 50th birthday, I'm ashamed of what my country's leaders have done. Despite our so-called 'free speech', I am barred from uttering what I'd like to see happen to the lot of them.
I don't expect the damage to be able to be repaired in my lifetime, if ever. Even moving to Amsterdam or Vancouver won't help me, because the environment is fucked beyond human repair. It's a very, very discouraging time. Hand me the Prozac.
