"There was no reason for this. It was pure retaliation."
Thus spoke Tom DeLay's attorney today, waving a copy of DeLays new rap sheet for the press.

Oh, really, sir?

No reason? Pure retaliation?

Shall we discuss the all-night Medicare vote? Or any other of Mr. DeLay's "pure retaliation" measures he's used to earn his nickname "The Hammer?"

Pure retaliation? Sure it was. It appears Ronnie Earle learned from the Master Of Slime himself. And as with DeLay's strong-arm tactics, while it may appear distasteful and unfair to the one being targeted, it certainly isn't in any way illegal or unlawful.

It's just hardball, Tom. You remember that, right?

3. They could have avoided it if DeLay had kept his trap shut and
not gone around slandering Earle, who could have waived it. But Delay is an idiot, so he had to run his mouth. So why should Earle have granted him that favor?

7. Retaliation? Implies that DeLay did something worth fighting back against
DeLay should really have a talk with his attorney unless this is some hare-brained strategy to taint the jury pool and try the case in the media rather than the courtroom. Because if his attorney doesn't shut up voluntarily, the judge in the case will almost surely shut him up with a court order.

And I don't care what kind of a Rambo wannabe DeLay has for an attorney, lawyers don't like spending the weekend in jail for running their mouths.

10. The difference is, Tom's schtick was political, Earle's enforcing the law.
To me, there's no comparison.

He pulled his pranks for political gain. Earle's doing this because DeLay broke the law. He has no political agenda, he's doing this because it's the right thing to do, something DeLay knows nothign about...

12. His first statement complained that is was nothing but "retribution"
Which is defined as something justly deserved

So at least he picked a slightly better word this time.
