Suggest campaign commercials for Dems in '06
One thing Democrats need to do in '06 is take most of their campaign consultants to the glue factory--most seem to be either politically tone deaf or working for the other side.

Howard Dean is largely setting the right tone, even though I don't agree with him on the war.

What should be in some hard hitting commercials that work for most senate and congressional races?

1. Hard hitting? The Dems?
What we've seen too often is, "Vote for us. We're Bush Lite." I long for a principled Dem taking stands for the people, like Paul Wellstone. That would resonate with the country.

4. Al Franken interviewed someone from Wellstone Action...
He described one of Paul's commercials and I thought, damn, no wonder they killed him.

2. Two I can think of...
(1) Comparing action during Schiavo case to reaction to Katrina.
(2) Commercials pointing out members linkages to Delay and the culture of corruption.

3. Unfortunately, they'll need to keep it as simple as possible.
The average voter doesn't "get" what's happening in DC. (That's not a judgement, it's just the way it is.)

7. Flip the GOP strategy on itself
They haven't lowered spending, they haven't put money in most Americans' pockets.

I envision it will go like this:

"Vote Democratic this election. You'll reap the benefits of your taxes."

"Vote Republican, and someone else will."

Then cut to a montage of Halliburton CEO's with an overlay of what they earned a year, on average, during *.

Then follow it up with a Wal-Mart employee showing a picture of thier two-week paycheck after taxes ($944) and their monthly health care insurance bill ($425).

People will get the picture.

8. "I'm Nancy Pelosi, and I've never been indicted"
Unlike the Republican majority leader in the Senate, and the Republican Majority leader in the House, and the President's brain, Karl Rove, or the Vice President, Dick Cheney.
