Murray Waas: Secret Service Records Prompted Key Miller Testimony
Secret Service Records Prompted Key Miller Testimony

By Murray Waas, special to National Journal

Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005

New York Times reporter Judith Miller told the federal grand jury in the CIA leak case that she might have met with I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby on June 23, 2003 only after prosecutors showed her Secret Service logs that indicated she and Libby had indeed met that day in the Executive Office Building adjacent to the White House, according to attorneys familiar with her testimony.

They nailed Monica with those logs...or maybe she counted on them being scrubbed, like Gannon's were (half-assed job they did on those).

Lazy fucking Scooter--he should have met her at the luncheonette down the street, or in the food court at the mall next to the Ritz. Putz!!!

By their hubris we shall know them.

31. She shouldn't have lied to protect them. If she wanted to make a point
about sources - if she wanted to keep her special access - I can see her doing it. That makes her career savy. But lying? why? Unless she is a neocon.

36. Of course she is one of them, her stupidity was that she really
believed they could make shit like a automated log disappear. But you can't--it's all in a ponderous database. You get a card if it is a temporary pass, and before you get the card, you have to sign in. That goes in the computer, and your name is associated with the temporary pass number for that swipe in and swipe out.

Stupidity and laziness did her and Scooter in. If he had just met her down the street at the coffee shop, we would never know about this meeting.

Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 06:58 PM by Pithy Cherub
clearly show who lied and who didn't. Somebody in the White House was not very thorough when they prepped for testimony to the Grand jury. It was no secret that Fitzgerald subpoenaed records and logs of entrances and exits during the time this would have occured. How could a defense attorney NOT have known that those records existed?

As befits these purveyors and White House miscreants, hoisted on their own petard!

Just sayin! This is the Watergate/Iran Contra cover up Gang that absolutely cannot commit the perfect crimes. And Geesh, how many of them were actual lawyers.

39. They have never had to commit the perfect crime.
No one has ever called them on their crap, so they can be as sloppy as they want. They think they are above the law, because they always have been. Look at Iran Contra. Reagan ran a shadow govt from the basement of the WH and no one cared.

12. She is complicit in the lies to go to Iraq as part of the WHIG. She used
the NYT to tell their lies about WMDs. This investigation is starting to tell the story. The use of the WHIG name (I'm guessing only about a week old) is now showing up in print media and TV.

8. Doesn't this all prove that she is not a journalist. A politician is more
likely to forget the things she is forgetting than a journalist.

Does this show that Fitzgerald had already subpoenaed SS records. Wouldn't it be interesting if the records show that she or Libby met with Gannon? Funnnnnn.

9. They met in the WHITE HOUSE??!! Good God! I want a Constitutional
amendment: No dirty, rotten, traitorous schemes get to be concocted in government buildings; and if it must be done in the White House--given that the New Holy Roman Empire must have its dirty, rotten traitors like all other glorious killing machines--public speakers must be installed to broadcast the plot to all citizens.

No exceptions.

Judy and Jeffy aiding and abetting the traitorous neoconsters with their propaganda and, undoubtedly, doing some of the dirty work from within the White House.

18. Larry Johnson: "Some Repent for Backing Judy Miller"
When Judith Miller went to jail in July I rejoiced because some justice, at least in my eyes, was being visited on a media whore who helped the Bush Administration mix the kool aid that took us to war. One journalist took issue with my view and praised Judith. I was pleasantly surprised to get the following today from "Bob". May more Bobs come forward.

29. ReddHedd: "The beauty of being a Federal Prosecutor with a mind like a
.... steel trap and a loyal staff of lawyers and investigators is that you have all the means at your disposal to try and track down every single piece of evidence: every scrap of paper, every note, every receipt, every entry log every photo, everything you can get your hands on, before ever asking a question of anyone on the record in court.

As an aside, having defended clients in federal court in criminal matters, I can tell you the first major drug case that I worked was an eye opener in terms of just how thorough federal agents can be. After my client was arraigned by the federal magistrate, agents brought my discovery in to me: nine full boxes of it. And promised to deliver the remainder of my discovery items to my office the next day, because they didn't want to weigh me down all at once. These guys mean business, and they are also quite good with the theatrics involved in making their point to a defendant.

In this particular matter, what Judy and Scooter forgot is that they are dealing with a professional. Not some slackass, just out of law school, wet behind the ears kid. Not some political social climber who would sell his mother for a Senate seat or a nomination to the Federal bench. Not some guy who was going to phone it in because he didn't want to piss off the high and mighty and powerful. This guy is a professional prosecutor, who does his job. Period.

You don't prosecute the Gambinos, Sheik Omar Abdel Rachman, Osama Bin Laden and former Governor Ryan of Illinois just for kicks. Those cases are all long, hard slogs, and potentially very deadly to your career as well as your person.

Much more at the link, now:

22. That deafening "chomp, chomp, chomp, .... " continues, as one "attorney"
... apparently nails someone else's client, and Libby gets tossed under yet another truck, and folk who thought they'd be helping Bush, essentially told the entire frigging world that he's not only been lying but all that really upset him was how sloppy a job his kids did trashing the CIA ....

28. Swopa: A Conspiracy of Dunces, Part 1 & 2
Sometimes, the hardest part of cracking a mystery is the tendency to underestimate how stupid people can be. For example, after spinning out a theory similar to mine about what Judith Miller and Scooter Libby were up to in the month before Valerie Plame Wilson was outed as a CIA employee, Billmon wrote:

If such a scenario were true, one could easily understand why Scooter and Judy would prefer not to mention their June meeting in their initial remarks to the grand jury. This, however, also would have been extraordinarily stupid, since it turns out that Judy called on Scooter at his digs in the Old Executive Office building, where she would have had to have been logged in and out.

Did that really not occur to them? These aren't stupid people, so it's hard to imagine that it didn't -- almost as hard as imagining that Patrick Fitzgerald didn't think to subpoena the OEO vistor logs.

<clip>

Memo to Scooter and Judy: I know it's inconvenient, but there was a reason why Mark Felt (a/k/a "Deep Throat") met with Bob Woodward at 2 A.M. in a parking garage, instead of Felt's office at the FBI ...

38. That's been a suspicion but still on my wish list is a fond hope that Fitz
Edited on Fri Oct-21-05 06:51 AM by Garbo 2004
might still nail her for perjury or obstruction or even littering.

Even with her original deal with Fitz in regard to testifying about her discussions with Libby she still tried to fuck with him. And then still apparently came up with selective amnesia regarding precisely who else she talked to and where she got "Valerie/Victoria "Flame"/Wilson." (If, that is, her NYT account is to be believed. But then we're talking Judy Miller here so clearly we shouldn't take anything she says at face value.)
