BREAKING: JUDY LIED TO GRAND JURY (Scooter meeting on June 23)
http://nationaljournal.com/about/njweekly/stories/2005/1020nj1.htm

<snip>
New York Times reporter Judith Miller told the federal grand jury in the CIA leak case that she might have met with I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby on June 23, 2003 only after prosecutors showed her Secret Service logs that indicated she and Libby had indeed met that day in the Executive Office Building adjacent to the White House, according to attorneys familiar with her testimony.

When a prosecutor first questioned Miller during her initial grand jury appearance on September 30, 2005 sources said, she did not bring up the June 23 meeting in recounting her various contacts with Libby, the chief of staff to Vice President Cheney. Pressed by prosecutors who then brought up the specific date of the meeting, Miller testified that she still could not recall the June meeting with Libby, in which they discussed a controversial CIA-sponsored mission to Africa by former Ambassador Joe Wilson, or the fact that his wife, Valerie Plame, worked for the CIA.
<snip>

<snip>
Stan Brand, a respected Washington defense attorney who often represents political figures in high-profile investigations, including those by special prosecutors, said in an interview that he did not know the particulars regarding Miller's testimony. But, speaking in general, he said: "What you tell your client when they go before the grand jury, is that they should be truthful, be thorough, and not hold anything back. You don't want to hide anything or not disclose things to expose you to charges or even the perception by the government that you haven't been forthcoming."

4. This supports my belief she made a deal after getting caught.
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 07:31 PM by Neil Lisst
I think she got caught lying, made a deal to roll, and then "found" the notebook she'd been hiding.

I have been saying for months she was part of the cover-up, not a journalist protecting her source.

IN PARI DELECTO!! at the roots!

BTW, Halliburton, in a little over four hours, my Friday comic comes online (same address as above) and will have your screen name in it. Just a little pre publication info ...

5. Sounds Like Several People Perjured Themselves...
So many different stories going around, it kind of makes your head spin. It's cool actually hear some of these contradictions, and it almost looks like they're All lying, and each telling different lies, so you can hardly keep track of it.

6. I wouldn't get too excited yet. Now if Fitz put Miller in a box, like
got her to state that those were the only meetings she had with Libby and her response was emphatic, and the jury thinks she was attempting to mislead, then yes. However, if she left questions in the air about how she wasn't completely sure she may skate.

7. Think The GJ Is That Naive And Stupid?
Don't you think if she was obviously lying, they could figure it out? When she came back a few days later and suddenly realized, oh....guess I was wrong....and here's a whole bunch of information on what I had completely forgotten about.

She brought herself an indictment from that contradiction, the only question is how many other indictments might be in store for her. Only Fitzgerald and the GJ know for sure.

11. Exactly: This is an African American grand jury in DC
Not exactly a recipe for naivete. The response to Judy's memory failure on this question and sudden recollection would range from a sardonic "Mmmm Hmmm" to a fairly open "My momma didn't raise no fool."

30. Ya got that right
This case is ESPECIALLY a "common sense" kind of thing swirling in a sea of bullshit; people with street smarts will probably see right through it.

One of the most intriguing things about all this is what an amateur hour it is on the part of the conspirators. Miller put on one of the most pathetic displays of selective memory ever.

NPR had a great joke today:

Q: What's the difference between Jason Blair and Judith Miller?
A: Blair made up plausible stories.

27. But why is she still testifying at hearings & doing interviews for
her "principled First Amendment stand"? She has to know that that will look even worse when the indictments come down. Or are they? {please, please!)

14. i hope she rots in prison
even if she's just s dumb reporter wanting to get the scoop and the headlines, the lies she wrote without any investigation played a key role in the death of thousands. journalists should check facts before they put crap on the front page. she needs to be a poster girl for journalists who don't check facts and just believe whatever the right wing liars tell them.
