8. I'm Here! Making Plans To Fly To Bethesda 10/27 or 28

Plans have changed and Ben is NOT going to Balboa. So I will be flying from Catania to Rome to DC next week. Ben is improving each day but they haven't even begun reconstructive surgeries. They are managing and cleaning his wounds.

Major compound fracture of his right femur and a shattered left elbow are the two main concerns. I will be staying at the Fisher House adjacent to the hospital or at the Navy Lodge if there isn't any room at FH. I have yet to recover from my trip to Germany and I am exhausted. I should be in the States for two weeks. Anybody who lives in the area and wants to meet up just PM me and I will try to plan some time to meet any DUers!

I did not get that opportunity in Germany because the trip was so brief. Thanks for all the love and concern. I could not do this without ALL OF YOU. Love and kisses.

It was so good to see Ben alive. When you first posted his pic in his uniform, standing tall a while back, my heart just went out to you - to have to send such a great kid into hell.

I'd notice in your posts sometimes you'd "count down" how many weeks, days til he left.

I kept hoping that day would never have to arrive.

But it was so brave to post those pics. People need to see what the reality of **'s warmongering is. And I get so freaking sick of the fools who "support the war" but don't want to fight it.

Hang in there. I know it has to be hard right now. When my son snapped his femur parachuting out of an airplane - and called me later from the hospital to tell me, it was a very bizarre and unmotherly moment. I wanted to go back in time and undo whatever had been done to mess with my baby so badly.

Aaargh. You are brave and strong and tough and so is Ben. Sending lots of good thoughts your way. :hi:

28. I was just thinking of that this morning...and then I found this post...

...and the one Binka posted when she returned last week. I hadn't forgotten about her Ben, but it'd been a pretty busy week and I hadn't quite kept up with DU as much as I usually do.

It's So Great to hear Ben is back home (well, close anyway at Bethesda).
If Binka or Ben is reading this, my very best wishes for his speedy recovery.
