Kucinich demands WHIG documents

Kucinich Uses Resolution Of Inquiry To Demand Documents From White House Group That Developed Strategy To "Sell" War To The Public And Press

Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) today introduced a Resolution of Inquiry to demand the White House turn over all white papers, minutes, notes, emails or other communications kept by the White House Iraq Group (WHIG).

"This group, comprised of the President and Vice President's top aides, was critical in selling the Administration's case for war," stated Kucinich. "We now know that the Administration hyped intelligence and misled the American public and Congress in their effort to 'sell' the war. After over 1,900 American troops have been killed in Iraq, it is long past time for this Congress to ask serious questions about WHIG and its role in the lead up to the war."

A Resolution of Inquiry is a rare House procedure used to obtain documents from the Executive Branch. Under House rules, Kucinich's resolution is referred to committee, and action must be taken in committee within 14 legislative days.

"For two-and-a-half years Congress has sat on the sidelines neglecting its oversight responsibility when it has come to Iraq," continued Kucinich. "We owe it to the American people to hold this Administration accountable and to find out the truth."

2. I called my Rep and Pelosi about this.
My Rep is Joe Baca (D-CA-43). I had a very pleasant chat with one of his DC staffers today. She told me that they're receiving more of these type of phone calls. I hope that they are obtaining some traction with Rep Baca as he seems to be a bit timid.

I left a message on Nancy Pelosi's machine. I don't like those things. I would hope that a Congress Critter ought to have people answering the phone. But I was polite, encouraged her to keep up the good work and encouraged her to help Kucinich get the support he needs for this resolution.

My argument is simple.
It appears that the White House Iraq Group may be part of an administration conspiracy to fix the intelligence, as was documented in the Downing Street Minutes. Furthermore, statements from the White House and responses to the press concerning Rove/Plame affair lead one to believe that the White House may have obstructed the investigation by either stonewalling, or by actively covering it up. As a voter, I deserve to know the facts behind this. So far this White House has escaped any oversight by Congress. There may now be an opening for that to change. Congress should exercise its Constitutional duties and investigate these very worrying circumstances. I sincerely hope that Rep. <name> will support, and cosponsor Representative Kucinich's resolution of inquiry.

4. I am very happy to see this but wouldn't it have been really great...
Edited on Fri Oct-21-05 12:52 AM by NNN0LHI
...had all of the Dem's started requesting this stuff a long time ago? About three years ago? And if the Republicans wouldn't give it up shouldn't the Dem's have began filing lawsuits and everything else they could possibly do to get their hands on these documents?

If for nothing other reason then to just make them look like they have been doing their jobs for the past several years. Or am I being too hard on the Dem's for even suggesting such a radical idea?

5. oh yeah and dont forget judith miller....
Besides Rove and Libby, the group included senior White House aides Karen Hughes, Mary Matalin, James Wilkinson, Nicholas Calio, Condoleezza Rice and Stephen Hadley. WHIG also was doing more than just public relations, said a second former intel officer.

"They were funneling information to Judy Miller. Judy was a charter member," the source said.
