Indonesians challenge U.S. envoy in lively exchange

By Tomi Soetjipto

JAKARTA (Reuters) - U.S. goodwill envoy Karen Hughes got a earful from a group of mostly female Indonesian Muslim students on Friday, who expressed anger at the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and attacked Washington's foreign policies.

Tasked by U.S. President George W. Bush to polish America's image overseas, the undersecretary of state for public diplomacy is in Jakarta to meet leading Muslim clerics and students during a tour of the world's most populous Muslim nation.

"Why does America always act as if they were the police of the world?," Barikatul Hikmah, a 20-year-old student at the Syarif Hidayatullah University asked Hughes.

Lailatul Qadar, a petite 19-year-old student wearing colourful headscarves, added: "It's Bush in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine and maybe it's going to be in Indonesia, I don't know. Who's the terrorist? Bush or us?"

6. And that all my friends in DU
is the sad reality of the opinion of the people outside of US.

WHO IS THE TERRORIST ?

Whereas US was once a fine and great country....
Whereas US was once a country the world look up too....
Whereas there once was an Americans dream....

THE WINTER IS COMING

Whereas people are unique individual....
Whereas people will always disagreed....

AND THE COST OF HEATING WILL RISE 30%

AMERICA TODAY
SENATE SESSION....
Amendments introduce to increase funding for heating by 3.1 billion for the poor the needy and the elderly.

Amendments introduce by REED base on
1) 2 billion allocated last winter wasn't enough
2) Energy cost has risen by 30%
3) Lots of people will have to go without heating this winter.

Reed asked for a vote
Waiver was turn down
Point of Order call
Amendments kill

WITNESS THIS ALL ON C SPAN

Who cry when winter come
Who cry when the body turn cold
Who will cry for the little one
Who will mourn the passing from a bitter cold

SHOULD THE LIFE OF A CITIZEN OF USA BE POLITICIZES?

I cried for America today
I fear for America today
I am terrorized by America today

When a country will gladly spend and defend 200 billion for an illegal war.
But no willing to spend 3.1 billion more to help his own less fortunate citizens through a coming winter
When your elected representative can act like kings
And treat the one who voted less than a human being
When they feel so secure that they can fuck the people
IT IS ALREADY TOO LATE?????

8. Well said!
I agree heartily with your sentiment! But it is not too late for any of us...that cold coming this winter will be touching the hearts of many who've suffered a long time and while I'm afraid lots of Americans will be dying from it, those who survive are gonna be hoppin' mad! Our home heating oil and propane gas prices are predicted to go up almost 70%...this is gonna hit where Americans don't like to be hurt, their pocketbooks! I predict that collective "BRRR" you'll be hearing might just turn into a mighty roar before long!

10. If the Dems don't pay attention to this and run on experience
and who is best suited to do a job, then they deserve to lose.

"Hughes is a close confidante and image-shaper of Bush with no previous experience in foreign diplomacy other than accompanying him abroad during trips in the first years of his presidency."

Notice most articles now refer to * people's lack of experience.

12. A Karen Hughes dispatch from abroad
in her own words...
"The Prime Minister himself experience was participated in an American Exchange program. And he feels very strongly that those people to people exchanges. We met with this morning with some Alumni of those people to people exchanges and what I’ve heard here in Egypt is how important that people to people, that person to person eye to eye contact is in getting to better know and understand each other. And by the way two way exchanges, not only having Egyptians come to the United States which we want them to do but also have more Americans visit Egypt."

...

"I really say that my job which is public diplomacy is about people. It’s about people and it’s about our policies. Because I recognize that our policies have an impact on people’s lives and I think I’ve learned as I’ve listened to people here that sometimes policy decisions that there are two sides to the coin. And you have one set of views in one place and a different set of views in another. Take for example the Palestinian issue. The goal of our United States policy in Palestine is that the Palestinian people might have the opportunity for a better life. That young people growing up in Palestine who -- that they have an opportunity to be educated and to have a job and too. I remember meeting with someone who told me how many Palestinian young people because they don’t have an opportunity to have a job, don’t feel that they can afford to be married and to have children, to have the experience of having children and families. And that’s what we want for the Palestinian people. That is the goal of our policy."

Now WTF is she saying here? No wonder Dubya sounds like his brainpan is packed with cat litter, listen to how his mentor talks!

30. Hey, On That Topic
I've been saying exactly that for some time now. The "originalists" came from an extension of strict construction. The problem is that these dolts don't understand the inherent contradiction.

What they're basically claiming is that the consitution should be narrowly applied, based upon a very limited reading, but then base any application on what the framers INTENDED. Therefore, a strict application of the constitution REQUIRES THAT THE DOCUMENT BE INTERPRETED!

IOW, nothing can be understood about the document or its application unless one opines on the intentions, in the minds, of people who died almost 200 years ago.

So, we're supposed to take it literally and narrowly as long as we understand the unspoken and unwritten thoughts of people who did this 22 decades ago!

The whole concept of originalism is idiotic on its face, and promoted by people not half as smart as they think they are, and, objectively, dumber than dirt.
The Professor

32. Man, you've got that right
Shroud your interpretation in the dark art of divination and you too can call yourself an Originalist. I once heard Scalia use, not the constitution or any other legal document, but the 18th century cultural milieu to justify a ruling -- he said that execution of minors wasn't cruel or unusual because it twern't no thang back in the day. That's some striiiiict constructuralizing.

31. AGGGGGGGH!!!!!!
"There is no proportional representation requirement in the Equal Protection Clause," said Cass Sunstein, a constitutional law professor at the University of Chicago. He and several other scholars said it appeared that Miers was confusing proportional representation - which typically deals with ethnic groups having members on elected bodies - with the one-man, one-vote Supreme Court ruling that requires, for example, legislative districts to have equal populations.

Good LORD, and they want to put this dunce on the COURT??? Hell, next thing you know, troublesome minority votes will only be worth 5/8th of a vote, and women will be barred from the polls.

Jesus, that is troubling!!!!

Bush's crappy earpiece feed and mindless word repetition. Either that or she's been exposed to Bush too long. When substance fails just bleat out buzz words without any meaningful context.

The last stage of evil is incoherent babble. Just listen to the Nixon tapes for oratorical lessons in mental decline.

things around the White House and I don't mean the royal knob. Damage control in Washington(SPIN)is starting to get pretty flaky, what with Brother KKKarl on his way out and the pubs poll numbers running 20% behind the good guys in congress. The Bush regime has blown it overseas worse than they have here at home, if that is possible. Texas Chain Saw Diplomacy and Grand Theft are hard to sell. She'd do better selling Grit Papers, than trying to sell more stale BUsh*t.

I'd say that blimp @$$ed Karen Hugh will be in big trouble, if things start biting the GOP on the @$$ any worse than they already are now. The @$$ Biters have a Hugh target there to gnaw on, so how could they miss? The Bush administration's word, on ANYTHING, is as worthless around the world, as it is in downtown New Orleans.

BTW, Is she related to Rush Limbo?

I sold Grit Papers when I was a kid. I always thought that most people thought I was pug ugly, when I came to sell my papers, because they all ran into their houses and acted like they weren't at home. I always ended up reading my papers myself.

I wish I could go back to my first childhood again sometimes, because this second childhood is mighty sad. All my great dreams and expectations of good things ahead, in that first childhood, are the things that I now miss the most. So much good to look forward to back then. Now looking backward is much more easy to abide, than dwelling on what probably lies ahead.

Momma never told me they'd be days like this, because she could have no more imagined this present calamity than I did. The Fairness Mom always spoke of, is something that should be placed on the endangered species list now. It probably should have been on the list all along, but the demise of fairness was never so obvious and ugly as it is today.
