200 years ago today
21 Oct 1805 -The British Fleet defeated a combined Spanish and French Fleet at Trafalgar off the coast of Spain. The Brits, led by Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson destroyed 18 ships while losing none. The defeat ensured Napoleon would fail in his quest to conquer Britain. Admiral Nelson died of injuries during the battle.

1. That was quite a victory
Nelson was a couragous man what he did was very bold. As the saying goes 'fortune favours the bold'.

2. He was 47 when he died
and prior to the battle he had lost one arm and the sight of one eye in previous battles. His battle tactics were very aggressive. Napoleon kept a bust of him in his office. Quite a hero.

3. If it wasn't for Nelsons victory
Britain would be invaded and overrun by Napoleon.

5. Here ya go an interesting link

AT THE scene of Britain’s finest naval victory off Cádiz, where Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson beat the French and Spanish navies at the Battle of Trafalgar 200 years ago, a wreath was laid yesterday in memory of those who fought and died on that historic day.

The middle brother, Craig Nelson, 30, a Royal Marine, said: “If it weren’t for that man we’d all be speaking French now, and we’d be eating mussels for Sunday lunch instead of roast beef.”

Trafalgar Day was also celebrated around the world, with bell-ringing and other commemoration events, from the town of Nelson in New Zealand to the coastal resort of Trafalgar in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
