Miers told to stop dropping in on senators. She makes things worse.
Apparently, her personal appearances are screwing things up even worse.

Several conservative activists who avidly backed Roberts are keeping silent or offering tepid public endorsements of Miers, using private channels to express their dismay to the White House. Yesterday, in one of the twice-weekly conference calls involving conservative leaders and organized by liaisons to the White House, several participants said Miers should stop paying visits to senators because they do more harm than good. Details of the call, first reported by nationalreview.com, were confirmed by a participant who said no one spoke in favor of continuing the visits.

Does anyone think that this nomination is still alive?

1. What the heck is her problem?
Is she naive? Stupid? She's acting like a 16 year old running for student council.

4. you are being kind.
perhaps she is offered as comic relief, as the indictments flow?

What I really think happened is that Bush is inane to begin with, but with these "background noises" he has totally lost it. He has no clue, and in his mind, since she wipes his ass, hands him documents with a smile, then tells him, "No Mr. PResident, you don't have to read it. This is a photo op. I've taken care of everything." He is confident in her abilities.

Part of the problem is arrogance, part is the way he is insulated from the outside.

6. She's not stupid. This is the way the game was played before
the Cronyism charge was made against Bush. Don't you remember in those hearings how the Senators, even the Democratic ones, claimed they had spoken to Roberts in the days and weeks after his nomination?

5. Tradesports.com futures have her at 30% confirmation.
Tanking since yesterday. I was short from 72 thankfully. Anyway, I think that they may pull her when the Hurrican hits. Would be a big confulence of events....her, hurricane and Rove/Libby indictments. Would make for big news days that's for sure.

7. She's a stand in until the indictments - then she withdraws and Shrub
nominates some whacko that we would all despise and suddenly that's all the media will be talking about. They figured that the indictments were going to come out sooner and Shrub wouldn't have to keep his little love struck pit bull out there this long. That's why Dobson and the other Pharisees are saying, I've talked to KKKarl and it's ok - they know she's not going to get the nod, she's just filler until they need a distraction.

8. Remember the Breck commercials?
"The closer you get, the better she looks."

I'm guessing that Miss Miers isn't a Breck Girl.
