A "Faith and Values Correspondent" on CNN...Is this appropriate? |
|
Or just weird? Is CNN providing us the newest televangelist? Are they trying to corporatize faith? "As the faith and values correspondent, Gallagher will examine significant news stories through a religious perspective..." http://whatshappeningatcnn.blogspot.com/2005/09/gallagher-hired-on-as-faith-and-values.html

...covered it on their "This Week in God" segement. Genius, and I have to say having Corddry do it not that Colbert is gone, hasn't missed much of a beat.

2. faith was corporatized by bushco long ago . . . . |
|
but to use faith and values and correspondent (media) in the same sentence is an oxymoron, n'est pas?

3. I won't watch it.... but I have no problem with it.... |
|
many newspapers have a "religion" page or section.... sometimes it's interesting and other times I just skip it. Why do you consider the concept illegitimate?

5. No. It's the "faith and VALUES" part that is creepy. |
|
Values are subjective. It's one thing to cover RELIGION which is a known entity.. but VALUES??? WHOSE values??

6. the "values" of those "known entities" I assume... |
|
like Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims etc. etc. Take the story about the burning of bodies in Afghanistan. That could be viewed from a "religion and values" perspective in a valuable way.

9. A Religion Correspondent would be fine |
|
But people without religious faith are quite capable of having values.
And some of those who claim to have faith are sorely lacking in the values department.

that the correspondent was reporting ON religion or religious issues or the religion angles of stories, not giving us his views on "faith and values" and just doing pro-dobson fluff pieces. If they are just reporting on it, I have no beef with it, although it is not a report I would seek out or watch myself.
