6. look in the top right part of the site and you'll see the user
registration, I keep track of that and at the beggining of this week it was in the 78,800s...

14. I may be living in an alternate universe --
My local paper had three articles on the front page today:

1. Journalism student thrilled to meet NYT's Judith Miller!

2. Student injured in Iraqi convoy talks about the poor condition of Iraqi civilians: Why we are there - to save those poor people.

3. Circuit lecturer on Intelligent Design: It takes more faith to be an atheist than it does to believe in God.

People are waking up? What people? People online? People who read Editor & Publisher?

I am *not* saying you are wrong -- I am just saying that I am not at all convinced that people are waking up.

Also: I am very, very cranky today because my "Stop This War" yardsign was stolen last night.

Finally: I love the pic in your sig line! Very, very nice. :-)

24. Get out and talk to people
You'll be amazed at how many people hate Bush.

Most of the local mullet wrappers don't have a clue, especially if they are owned by the NYT's. They are still in denial and publishing themselves into irrelevance.

27. I do get out and talk to people -
in my bluish city in a red, red, red state. I am amazed when I hear mild-mannered people who hate *.

Then again, it does not seem to be reaching a flash point. Over and over and over I've thought it was 'going to happen' then - back to our regularly scheduled lifestyle of ignorance and self-absorption.

Publishing themselves into irrelevance - I hope.

42. I think Katrina changed most of that
I'm hearing from life long republicans that are totally disgusted with Bush. People got to see the ugly side of Bush and it wasn't pretty.

30. how big is your town and how many readers does that newspaper have?
with the decrease in newspaper (particularly printed) who cares?

Believe me, more and more people are using the Internet for many reasons (particularly because it can be followed from work ;-) so I want to believe that this is due to peoples seeking more info, even if most regular citizens are ignoring news all together, they can't ignore how their wallets are being affected and that's what matters at the end of the day for many and that has an impact in how they perceive the admin...

36. The TV is just as bad or worse --
The other evening after reading DU all day, and listening to Sam Seder on AAR giddy with joy over the impending indictments, I turned on the TV to see:

MSNBC covering the white teenaged-girl missing in Aruba

Someone on FOX News 'testifying' on behalf of * -- it was Dan Quayle waxing poetic about how * had rested the success of his presidency on Iraq and how we wouldn't know whether or not * presidency had been successful for another decade.

Pat Robertson's 700 Club covering Saddam's Trial - Look Evil Man!

32 channels with self-absorbed, materialistic, brain-dead crap

:grr:

39. yeah, but all you have to do is look at their ratings and compare them to
previous years. The no. of viewers has decreased so much, even NBC announced a couple of weeks back the possibility of layoffs...

3. I had a friend who usually lurks at DU actually join because of
the Fitzgerald pending indictments.

Sometimes in super-high traffic Skinner has to close the board down to only members.

And on Election Night, I believe it was closed down to all but donating members.

79,030 / 1754 (days since Jan 2001) = 45/Day

22. You can't really estimate growth trends that way -- 45/Day...
There are surges after major events, then growth is very slow, then there will be another surge. I joined in the HUGE expansion that happened last November after the presidential election was stolen.

I agree with your lurking ways, this is the best forum on the internet. Folks here have great info and willingly share. Not to mention they are very creative and keep you in stitches. I would have gone nuts if I hadn't found them after the 2004 fiasco we called an election.
