Gambling Gregg
Senator Judd Gregg the Republican Senator from New Hampshire just won over 8 hundred thousand dollars by playing Powerball.
Senator Judd Gregg is already an extremely wealthy man.
His wife is planning on remodeling their expensive home with the money that Senator Judd won through gambling.
I believe he should immediately give the money to help relieve the suffering caused by FEMA which is a Federal Department that he, as a United States Senator, should have been overseeing.
He should not be rewarded through gambling for his failure to act in the best interests of his constituents and the American people.
In fact, as a rich New Englander, it is odd that this man would take the time to dabble in Powerball.
He claims he was lucky – but let’s look at the facts. Powerball is a multi-state gambling operation whose revenues are used to line the pockets and support the bloated budgets of several states.
As an enterprise that operates across state lines Powerball is of Federal interest.
As a gambling concern that siphons money away from the active part of our economy and out of the pockets of Americans it should be of interest to those churches and people fighting poverty.
Judd Gregg has tarnished the image of the United States Senate and has made the Republican Party look like a bunch of cheap, down-on-their-luck creeps who scrape together their pocket change to try and win the big one.
In Senator Gregg’s case, however, he won it fair, right?
Why not encourage the good gambling Senator to give the money away?

2. If he were a decent human being he'd
have already announced his intention to donate at least a portion of his winnings to aid Katrina victims or to another charity of his choice.

However, I have no doubt that he's a smarmy SOB who will pocket his little windfall without a second thought.

He's certainly not the only public official to ever gamble. Former Louisiana Governor and convicted felon Edwin ("Fast Eddie") Edwards was a staple at the casinos in Lake Tahoe when my sister-in-law dealt blackjack there back in the 70s and 80s.

4. He's not entitled to spend a buck of his money on the Powerball?
Has this guy come out and made a big fuss against gambling ala the notorious Ralph Reed or one of those guys?

That's pretty crazy because if a dem had won money and someone said that he should give it up we'd all be arguing that he's just as entitled as the next guy to the money if he wins.

Seriously, I'm not a republican sympathizer but this is nuts. He put his dollar on a legal game. Just like the grand prize winner and the rest of us schmucks.

6. Kidnapped? Man, I missed a lot before I got
Ticked off and started reading political stuff...!

I agree with the above posters who said he had the right to buy a ticket and win. He's a repuke, most likely a money-grubbing weasel. But he won it fair and square. Good for him, and if remodeling blows her dress up, good for her.

If I had won 800K, however, my lower middle class butt would have written a big check to Habitat for Humanity the same time I wrote one to pay off my mortgage.
