TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
1130 AM EDT FRI OCT 21 2005

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IS ISSUING ADVISORIES ON EXTREMELY
DANGEROUS HURRICANE WILMA... LOCATED ABOUT 50 MILES SOUTHEAST
OF COZUMEL MEXICO.

A WESTWARD MOVING TROPICAL WAVE THAT HAS ENTERED THE EASTERN
CARIBBEAN SEA THIS MORNING IS PRODUCING SHOWERS AND GUSTY WINDS
OVER PORTIONS OF THE LESSER ANTILLES. THERE ARE SOME INDICATIONS
FROM SATELLITE IMAGERY THAT A SURFACE CIRCULATION COULD BE
FORMING... AND SHOWER ACTIVITY REMAINS FAIRLY CONCENTRATED NEAR THE
DEVELOPING CIRCULATION CENTER. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THIS SYSTEM
COULD BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.

ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL STORM FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED THROUGH
SATURDAY.

FORECASTER KNABB

"Wilma" at far left. Potential "Alpha" at bottom center:

16. I think "Bravo" was under the old naming system ...
The Greek names would go Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon ... and I really hope that we don't get anywhere near that number!

9. I am putting critical thinking into action. I've seen enough of these...

... time of year, warmth of Caribbean, development of Wilma in same conditions before it.

Bank on it. By Monday, this is going to turn into Tropical Storm Alpha. I'm the LAST one who want's that, having taken two Cat 3 hits in less than a year, and having my family (in N.O.) torn apart by Katrina.

But Alpha is coming.

P.S.:
Re "Wave > Depression > Storm > Hurricane"... the NWS is all but saying it'll be a depression in 2 days. It's only one step from depression to (named) storm = Alpha.

15. Hey, if I get my head wrapped around every tropical wave
I will shoot myself. I have to hang on to some belief that I will survive through this fucking summer here in south florida.

17. Different tactics, I guess. Here in North Florida, I like to RUN!
Edited on Fri Oct-21-05 04:24 PM by Brotherjohn
I'd like to know as far in advance as possible if I need to skeedaddle up to Atlanta or somewhere. My kids are still traumatized from riding out Ivan. The we had Dennis (left, but lost roof), and Katrina (family in N.O. lost all).

Part of me though, also, likes to just not think about'em anymore.

Mainly, though, I am just dumfounded.

"Hurricane Alpha"! Sounds like we're in a sci fi movie.

20. I feel like a Stephen King character lately...
like wtf else can happen? Wish I could run, but can't afford it and got no where to go. Lost my house to Jeanne last summer, no insurance, not eligible for FEMA because we were staying with a relative who had the lease.

I dunno, sometimes I feel like a crisis seeking missle.

11. Hopefully..
Wilma depleted most of the energy by becoming a Category 5 'cane.

I'm just glad the fronts are likely to keep the hurricane away from the Louisiana coast. And if not, they at least cool the Gulf.

Is it November 30th yet?!!! Even with that, I'm all hurricaned out.

13. Have you noticed the extratropical rotation in the northern Pacific?
It was huge. It was pretty tightly wound yesterday afternoon but has been breaking up lately.

18. Last minute update... gotta go. NWS moves the "Depression" possibility up.
WESTWARD MOVING TROPICAL WAVE OVER THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN SEA IS
PRODUCING SHOWERS AND WINDS GUSTING TO TROPICAL STORM FORCE OVER
THE LESSER ANTILLES...THE VIRGIN ISLANDS...AND PUERTO RICO. THIS
SYSTEM SHOWS SIGNS OF ORGANIZATION ABOUT 350 MILES SOUTHEAST OF SAN
JUAN PUERTO RICO...AND A TROPICAL DEPRESSION COULD FORM DURING THE
NEXT DAY OR SO
AS IT MOVES WEST-NORTHWESTWARD ABOUT 15 MPH.
