2. We haven't even begun the Great Depression yet.
You need another Depression before people will elect an FDR.

17. The Depression started nearly three years ago
for me. Been jobless since then. Still looking for work. My former employer laid off nearly thirty percent of the workforce - half of which remain jobless today. I guess pain really does depend on point of view as they say.

7. I think you are right. True leadership with American ingenuity...
All this doom and gloom talk lately has me thinking about good old fashioned American ingenuity and how we came through past difficulties because of this.

I don't know who they are either but they are on the way.

8. I honestly think I know who it is...
...and I don't want to start a flame war in saying this, but I believe the pieces are falling into place to make it so.

Hint: most importantly, he'll be another FDR but, as a bonus, he's also another Ike.

12. Well, that would give it away...
...but I will go so far as to say it doesn't rhyme with "Goosin' itch".

Or, for that matter, "hintin'".

11. Just remember...
FDR arrived on the scene with the New Deal just in time to forestall violent upheaval (many feared the equivalent of the 1917 Russian Revolution) as a result of the Depression. And his humane social programs promptly got him called a Socialist. And the robber barons tried to launch a coup on his administration that only failed because Gen. Smedley Butler actually believed in the Constitution.

FDR's administration could just as easily have gone badly wrong. I don't think the oligarchs will be as unprepared the next time.

Jankyn, trying not to be too pessimistic

18. You might be correct....... And maybe big business could help
Since our major corporations are getting hammered by countries that have national health care, they must realize that it is time to control our greedy health care pigs. National health care in America would be, in effect, a subsidy for GM, Ford, Boeing etc. and a great thing for the people. AS it stands today, the pharm & health insurance industries are negating our ability to compete globally.

24. while I was excerising tonight I was thinking the very same thing.
I was watching link tv ( www.linktv.org ) with the European Journal program - so much shit happening in the world. They reported on all of the natural disasters as well as the international tensions ... I just felt it. It is SO bad and people are finally waking up and I believe they are craving another FDR and would go so far as to say they will demand we have another FDR. I hope the media will comply.
