Official Joe Wilson WAS sent by Cheney's OFFICE thread
Please feel free to add your posts and links - I am WAY tired of hearing that lie:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/10/AR2005081001918.html
<snip>
The 2002 mission grew out of a request by Vice President Cheney on Feb. 12 for more information about a Defense Intelligence Agency report he had received that day, according to a 2004 report of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. An aide to Cheney would later say he did not realize at the time that this request would generate such a trip.

http://mediamatters.org/items/200507150005
<snip>
Lie #1: Wilson falsely claimed Cheney sent him to Niger

In an attack on the credibility of former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, Plame's husband, Mehlman twice claimed that Wilson said it was Vice President Dick Cheney who sent him to Niger in 2002 to investigate a rumored sale of yellowcake uranium to Iraq. As Media Matters for America noted, Wilson claimed the CIA -- not Cheney -- sent him to Africa. In his July 6, 2003, New York Times op-ed, and in an August 3, 2003, interview on CNN's Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer, Wilson noted that the CIA sent him to Niger to investigate a question from Cheney's office about the uranium issue. The RNC cropped and twisted quotes from the Times op-ed and the CNN interview to back up this false talking point.

From Mehlman's July 12 appearance on CNN's Wolf Blitzer Reports:

MEHLMAN: Karl was right; Joe Wilson was wrong. The story was false. It was based on a false premise, and, of course, the conclusion was false. <...> What Joe Wilson alleged was that the vice president, then he said the CIA director, sent him to Niger.

From Mehlman's July 13 appearance on MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews:

MEHLMAN: Karl Rove said to a reporter that you ought not include the Joe Wilson report because it's inaccurate. And Karl was right. Mr. Wilson was wrong. The report was inaccurate. He was wrong in the sense that the vice president had not sent him down.

I am sick unto death of seeing some right wing liemeister spew that loogie EVERY single day this week on Nerfball

every DAY!

Matthews himSELF repeated it today!

I challenge those fascoids to come up with ONE mention by Wilson himself of CHENEY sending him, NOT Cheney's office requesting the CIA investigate the Niger story

jesus

Cheney's OFFICE, just like the OP said. That's what Chris said that Wilson said. And added that Cheney says he didn't know Wilson was sent, and we don't know that for a FACT one way or the other. Matthews was clearer on it today than he has ever been, which is why I'm surprised he's getting so much heat today.

38. Tweety already knows this. Don't fall for his act.
I want Wilson to appear on all those shows on CNN,MSNBC, and FOX unopposed just as his lying detractors have. They have all been given free reign without being challenged effectively. It's Hatfield all over again. (anthrax). This administration should not be allowed to get away with their unjust destruction of a person's career and character (Wilson, Edmonds, Hatfield, Kerry, McKinney, Lee, McCain, and the list goes on and on).

sordid tale. He made calls, he's talked to people, he is in this as much as any other so-called "reporter." But he sits behind his desk, offering "facts" and "commentary," when he is in the game up to his eyeballs. I find his dissembling rather disingenuous.

This is such a medusa-headed LIE, repeated obsessively by every reichbot and talking head, there must be some HUGH sensitivity to the association of Cheney with the Niger Hoax.

It must be that Cheney is indeed the fat, corrupt, venomous spider at the center of the web of lies. It's the central truth they're defending by battalions of lies.

45. If, over a phone line, Cheney said the two words
Valerie PLAME, in a sentence, I will betcha it sounds like VALERIE FLAME.

Even face to face, the way that sonofabitch channels Edward G. Robinson in a bad gangster flick, I'll bet it would sound like Valerie FLAME. And you don't ask the VP to spell it.

Judy and Scooter at a rodeo in Jackson HOLE? When Cheney just happened to be in town? Riiiiiiight....Judy, it's Scooter Libby....I'll take you to the VP now??????

Judy will fall on a (pork) sword before giving up Cheney, too. It would even be possible that Cheney was deliberately speaking in the background when Scooter was on the phone with Judy, saying something like "We shouldn't discuss Valerie Flame. That's still confidential." I can imagine a plethora of scenarios where she could get a 'leak' from Cheney and still claim she didn't talk with him. (No, he just sat back and spoke loudly enough to be "overheard.") :eyes:

who worked under/close to McGlocklin stated, cheney made 2 trips to CIA
Hdqts.at Langley for a working visit. The agent said,"its unheard of for a sitting VP to make 2 trips to CIA Central for a working visit".
What was cheney working on? IMHO I say cheney was working on who to send to Niger. The fact that cheney made those 2 working visits at a time when the Bush Crime Family desperately needed evidence Saddam
was making nukes is very telling and very troubling...Oh what a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive...I love it..

32. FLDem5, thanks for a good original post.
The right loves to bend the truth and make it something else. Al Gore doesn't say he was there from the beginning with the internet, that he was its earliest backer - no, he says he INVENTED the internet, according to them.

In the Wilson affair, they love to claim Wilson said Cheney sent him. No, he said the CIA sent him pursuant to Cheney's inquiry.

And you can prove it to their face, and the next instant, they will say their lie again. The right brownshirts their way past the truth daily, to repeat whatever lie will help them the most.

36. The RNC changing IN CREATING to INVENTED was CON luck.
Gore said: "..in creating the Internet.."
That is: in the creation of, inside the creation of, not at the beginning of.

The beginning of INVENTED being IN and it being one indivisible word luckily for them, kept people from seeing the truth in what Gore said. Even listening to the video, people heard what they assumed, rather than what was said.

It was an insidiously malicious and lucky change of word they made.

34. There's still a chance that Cheney did send Wilson.
Cheney and the CIA were in each other's face often enough.
Cheney could have known who they'd pick, or deftly requested not one, another, leaving only Wilson. Or, just asked for Wilson.
And, that Cheney did know his question would become a request.

The dost-protest-too-much Cheney denials could protect Cheney from scrutiny for the bigger prize: Plame, Brewster-Jennings, and WMD network ready to explode attempts to plant Iraq.

Okay, it's a limb.

46. I go for Occam's Razor, myself
The VP told the CIA to send someone to get what he wanted. The elements in the CIA who are very unhappy with the way things are going there (and they are legion) sent someone, all right--they sent someone with a brain who would not be cowed. I think Wilson was the CIA's way of saying "fuck you" to Darth Cheney.

37. One of the pdf's on Fitzgeralds site does state the 'CIA sent Wilson'
Now the way I see this being spun by the right is they will start screaming and echoing that they are vidicated and that Wilson should be indicted. I have already heard a few start suggesting an indictment for Wilson. I am sure Fitz will have to explain it to them (not that they will understand) that due to Cheney dropping this in NSA, and because the Bushites hadn't completely destroyed standard operating channels, it RESULTED in the CIA sending Wilson. There is already a hugh operation ramping up all their pr memes on this that will probably cause the average person's eyes to glaze over and ACCEPT the meme that it is all politics and why are they getting down so much on godly georgie?

42. Please explain: why does this matter anyway? other than in the nonsense
of the Rove defense:

Rove's Defense
from allhatnocattle.net
Rove's defense: author unknown
Karl didn't do anything wrong.
And even if he did, Valerie Plame wasn't a spy.
And even if she was, she wasn't undercover.
And even if she was, Wilson told everyone
And even if he didn't, everyone knew who she was anyway.
And even if they didn't, she had not done anything secret on the last 5 years.
And even if she did, outing her wasn't a crime
And even if it was, outing her did not ruin a 20 year CIA operation and their front company Brewster & Jennings
And even if it did, outing her did not endanger her and her family
And even if it did, outing her did not endanger otherCIA agents who worked for her
And even if it did, they deserved it because her CIA group was out to get Bush
And even if they weren't, Wilson lied.
And even if he didn't, it was trap concocted by Wilson's buddy Clinton and his wife Hillary to get at Bush
And even if it wasn't, Wilson was a partisan Democrat.
And even if he wasn't, his report wasn't important to anyone outside the Wilson household.
And even if it was, it was full of mistakes and grammar errors.
And even if it wasn't, everyone leaks intel like that in Congress.
And even if they don't, David Corn outed her first
And even if he didn't Novak never said her name
And even if he did he was never warned by the CIA not to do it
And even if he was Rove never said her name
And even if he did there is no proof
And even if there's proof, Rove only was only trying to prevent a mistake
And even if there was no mistake to prevent, Rove heard it from another reporter
And even if he didn't, he didn't know it was his job to prevent the leak
And even if he did, it's not like he signed a document saying he would never do it
And even if he did, it's not like Rove's boss promised to fire anyone involved
And even if he did, it's not like Bush signed a document saying he had to take corrective action
And even if he did, there is no proof someone from the WH blabbed
And even if there is proof, Judy Miller is not going to talk
And even if Judy talks, she was never working on a story about Wilson
And even if she was, there are no notes and the NYT denies it
And even if there are notes, Rove never mentioned any of this to anyone in the WH
And even if he did, no one will ever find the e-mail
And even if they find it, Rove had just forgotten about it
And even if he didn't forget, he lied to Bush and GW is innocent
And even if he isn't Democrats and Clinton are 'out to get Rove and Bush with lies and innuendo
And even if they are telling the truth... Hey look over there: See Miers? Letter from Al Qaeda? Avian Flu? Subway terror Alert
Valerie who? This is old news...

43. One thing I don't get...
is this: Even if Wilson DID claim that Cheney sent him to Niger, and even if Cheney DIDN'T ask for a CIA evaluation of the yellowcake claim, even then, how does that somehow make exposing his wife's covert identity a legal act? Would the forged documents somehow become authentic? Would Karl Rove suddenly be revealed as an ethical human? Would Chris Matthews and Andrea Mitchell be transmogrified into actual journalists?

I don't think so.
