"Fitzmas"? Yes! But I've still got butterflies. |
|
It's all over the blogosphere - at least the progressive one - and while I love the pun, I feel a little unsettled by it. Perhaps I should just chill and enjoy the fun of this extended period of excited anticipation. Indeed it's just like a slow motion Christmas Eve in our neck of the political spectrum these days. Now, I'm not in a moral quandry about taking a healthy heaping of shoddy joy out of what may about to befall BushCo. It's not that. I just don't want to get all high as a kite, in giddy expectation of a massive judicial bitchslap of Rove, Libby (and perhaps company), and then end up deflated and demoralized by what amounts to a kittenish love tap. I tend to think Fitz will do some damage here, but I have spent the last five years thinking and saying, to myself and to others: "Ok, this is IT. This is where the fuckers go down." And so far, it hasn't happened. I am cautiously optimistic that this may in fact be a tipping point, though not necessarily THE tipping point. But a tipping point that has lots of brothers and sisters nonetheless.
And if Fitz does in fact open up a big fat can of judicial whoop-ass over the next seven days, man, look out. Go to your windows everybody, open 'em up...and listen to the 'thump-thump-clap' of Queen's "We Will Rock You" echoing sweetly through your neighbourhood. That'll be me, cranking my middle age guy's sound system hundreds or thousands of miles away from your door. And you'll get off on it, just like me.
Ya got mud on your face, big disgrace, somebody better put you back into your place.

1. I am expecting nothing |
|
That way, on Fitzmas, I will be either not surprised or overjoyed.
More excited souls will be either not surprised or sorely disappointed.
