Whydid they ever allow Fitzgerald to be put in charge of this
investigation? Were they just overcome by their own arrogance? Thought could outsmart him? I don't understand it.

1. I think it was arrogance and belief they were too smart to get caught.

2. More than likely
Maybe they didn't know anything about Fitzgerald. From what I've read someone who worked for Ashcroft nominated Fitzgerald (the guy is Fitzgerald's friend) and he was appointed.

yeah. Prolly
They don't decide that really. I guess the DOJ does, but they probably were caught up in their own ego.But besides, they can fire him when they want, too if he starts pulling out indictments. That's when you party...

3. Because people want to see some justice...
but everything is going to get fixed thru the backdoor anyways thru "presidential pardons".

4. I've been reading a lot on The Fitz.
He is respected by both Democrats and Repukes. But I really think the Repukes believe he is a moderate republican..they are badly mistaken; and Mr. Fitzgerald makes it a point to declare he is apolitical.

5. he was put in by an underling of Ashcroft who ....
..... had to step aside because of conflict of interest. Also "they" didn't
expect members of the White House to flip, members of the CIA to actively
work against bush after the outing, and yes "they" were drunk w/ power.

6. Seems a miscalculation...
...with the benefit of hindsight. May also be that Ashcroft was lead to believe the WH was clean and therefore the investigation would not lead back to them.

9. Very Good Point
Just tell the soaring eagle that everything is cool. Off he goes into the sunset, but I wish he would be called to testify.

7. Threatened With Exposure of Something Worse if they Didn't?
What could be worse than being exposed as a bunch of cretins who would sell out our network of undercover WMD-hunters for political advantage?

How about evidence of 9/11-MIHOP?

If 9/11 was MIHOP, Some CIA people are sure to have solid evidence of it.

It really doesn't pay to fuck with the CIA.

10. What worries me is the thought that Bushco would not sit back
and allow one man to bring them down. The fact that he is still on the job leads me to believe that they don't fear him. We are talking about one of the most ruthless ruling cabals in human history. They have repeatedly shown a willingness to do ANYTHING to get and keep power.
