I picked up a copy of All the President's Men today |
|
I almost never buy new books, but heard this shouldn't be missed and that there may be parallels with (hopefully) upcoming events. I was too young to remember the Watergate era and we never covered it in school, so I know very little. I hope it's interesting as hell and prophetic, too.

1. Good for you---you will love it and I sure hope you don't have |
|
plans for the week-end because once you start it you won't be able to put it down.
You couldn't make up the stuff that went on.
I remember exactly where I was when I read in the NYT about the Watergate break in. I never, ever, thought that it would lead to a president leaving office.

3. It is a must read. I was a grade school kid during Watergate |
|
and I lived through the whole ordeal and read the book when I was a teenager (when the book came out.) It was an historic time. Let us know what you think.
Peace. CB

4. What an amazing book! I couldn't put it down...I was thinking |
|
of re-reading it, actually. It seems appropriate considering the current state of the "Presidency."

I am reading John Dean's "Worse Than Watergate".
Truly frightening.

6. I'll be teaching my class on the book next week.... |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-21-05 11:44 PM by flowomo
used to make them read the book (college journalism class), but now I have them watch the movie instead because so many of the people in the book are now WAY off their historical maps. You will want to follow up with "The Final Days" after you're done with ATPM.
By the way, I wrote my column on the Plame/Watergate parallels this week if you want to take a look:

I haven't read it in ages. The cast of characters in that story is amazingly large. I feel sorry for anybody having to write about the WMD/Plame/DSM/Etc affair. The'll need an encyclopedia to keep everybody straight. Boggles the mind how long the tentacles to this beast are.

9. I was a senior in high school when Watergate really |
|
hotted up, and followed it closely. I've seen the movie probably a dozen times, but had never read the book until lately. There is so much more in the book than the movie. Enjoy!

10. I've been looking for it in 'the stacks' |
|
Fear it may have gotten lost when I moved.
Three copies of "The Final Days" and I can't find my one copy of "All the President's Men."
Anybody want one?
