Conason: Fitzgerald is no Ken Starr
Fitzgerald is no Ken Starr
The same pundits who are absurdly smearing Fitzgerald as a partisan zealot
were notably silent during the Whitewater disgrace.
By Joe Conason

Oct. 21, 2005 | With the mounting anticipation that Bush administration
officials will be indicted in the CIA leak investigation, we have arrived at
the stage that was always inevitable: a wave of preemptive attacks on
special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald and his expected prosecutions.

3. Thanks. Smokin' Joe knows a little bit about investigations and their
coverage in the media. He must have an upside down deja vue these days

7. Conason is wasting his talent on a minor "case" when there are
so many other scandals out there with far more teeth.

If he weren't such a careerist, he'd take a serious look at election fraud.

But he'll never do it because it would damage his reputation and he wouldn't get invited to all of those squawking head shows.

8. Well, perhaps you should write on election fraud
A good writer writes what he knows. Conason knows independent investigations and allegations of White House corruption. Although your "careerist" allegation is certainly credible, considering every stinkin' time I turn on the teevee, there's Conason, bad-mouthing the President, exposing corruption and hypocrisy, while Timmy or Seanie or Teddy or Georgie sit across the desk and nod sagely.

9. A minor case? You're referring to Fitzgerald's investigation?

10. If you think the case on which Fitzgerald is working is somehow....
..."minor", then I respectfully submit that you haven't been paying attention. IMHO, the so-called Plamegate investigation is the legal flagship of all current, pending, and potential cases to be brought against the NeoCons and their enablers.

If Fitzgerald does what I think, and hope, he will do, all legal issues like the election fraud of 2000, 2002, and 2004 will be addressed and corrected over time.
