14. Thanks. I just spoke to her. |
|
The flooding is north of her in Fort Lauderdale. In fact, when I called her she was in her car and she said there wasn't any sign of flooding in Hollywood. That's a relief, at least for now, since that storm is getting closer to South Florida.

21. We got some very impressive rain storms last night... |
|
In Ft Lauderdale. I'm near the Executive Airport, about fifteen munites from Hollywierd.
Tons of water quite a bit of lightning. I was out on the covered porch watching nature do her thing... but the wind and rain picked up so much I was starting to get wet.
I'm guessing the results are some light flooding in the streets, but little or no property damage as a result of last night's storm.
Right now its cloudy but quiet... I expect another rain band to come through in the next couple of hours.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/10/22/wilma/index.htmlNot a mention of any rain at the moment in Broward. Wilma's still kicking Cancun's ass and isn't expected to hit FL until Monday. Am I in a time warp ?

19. Christ, there are parts of Florida that flood |
|
everytime it rains. I lived in house in Miami that could get up to 2 - 3 feet of water in the yard during normal storms.
Florida is very porous and most of the water drains off in no time.

A lot of the buildings are made of concrete. The apartment complex where I lived in North Miami Beach had an alley between buildings that would become a lake...scary because there were like 16 air conditioners running in it.

23. Oakland Park flooding |
|
My neighborhood. One block from my house. Kimberly Lakes has major drainage problems. News choppers have been outside all day covering flooding. We got hammered last night at around 2:30-4;00 a.m. with 5-7 inches of rain with plenty of lightning and thunder. I was outside draining the swimming pool at 3:00 a.m. as the water was up to the coping. I'm not looking forward to this storm. Wish us luck, and come visit in the winter when the weather's perfect!
