AP Movie review is very interesting
"Good Night, and Good Luck"

<snip>
And while the film is very much steeped in the details of its time - down to the rampant cigarette consumption - "Good Night, and Good Luck" couldn't be more relevant now. With the threat of terrorism inspiring widespread fear, with reporters and anchors experiencing newfound zeal after the government's response to Hurricane Katrina, with the Big Three network news anchors gone after two decades of familiar dominance, going back to Murrow - the man who pioneered socially responsible broadcast journalism - isn't just a stroke of luck. It's a stroke of genius.

1. Now, if they would just bring it to my market!
I wanted to see this since it was released but it's not showing within 50 miles of here!

2. Same here. I keep checking the AMC schedule, to no avail.
Hi, Sydnie! You'd think a movie so heavily promoted would be showing all over the place. I wonder if it's because I live in the red state of TX that we're not seeing it? I guess I'll have to wait and rent it, though I wouldn't have minded throwing a few bucks to such a good cause.

3. As I understand it, the big shot studios wouldn't touch this film, so
George had to pony up the financing himself. (no link) Hence,
distribution has to be on a smaller scale until some $$ comes in to get it into more theatres? - just an uneducated guess. And by the way, WAY TO GO HOLLYWOOD, you pack of pansies.

13. It Finally opened Yesterday, 10-21 in KC
I saw it the day it opened which was my dear departed mom's b-day. She would have loved it, as much as she loved Edward R. Murrow. I applauded at the end of the movie. Can't wait until it is on DVD. GREAT MOVIE.

20. I am here in blue Mass ... It is in Boston but that is a trek for a movie
for me. We have several different chains here in my area, and if they had it any closer than Boston I would be there already!

I see the ads and whine out loud that they haven't brought it here yet. Think I'll drop them an email and whine to them instead ... can't hurt, right?

6. It just opened yesterday
in the Kansas City market, and is excellent.

I love it that they have the "rampant cigarette consumption" right. I can tell you it feels incredibly timely. When Paley complains to Murrow that the advertisers will pull their ads, it makes you understand there's something fundamentally wrong with a system that allows corporate interests to dominate news coverage.

10. No I was looking up movies to go to and found this
I loved the AP article. I guess the media is becoming ashamed of itself. One can certainly hope, anyway, lol

12. It Was So Eerily Relevant Today....
I even looked up some transcripts because I thought they might have been embelishing it -- no they are doing it word for word, replace "terrorist" with "communist" and they have been handing us the same shit.

Murrow's "we are not descended from fearful men" piece could have been written today. It's a gift to us now. Again -- WAKE UP AMERICA!

16. The review snippet MISSED the true relevance
The focused on the "terrorism v communism"..but that's not the main idea.. It's the gargantuan zeal of a governmental hack run amok (Mccarthy) and the crew in charge now,.. THAT's the real comparison..

A glaring difference though is the mass consolidation of media that WE have now..It was NOT the case then.. There were still multiple media venues back then (not TV)..but newspapers.radio.magazines....Murrow lit the spark, and finally the others ran with it..

These days, everyone is "owned" by people who have a vested interest in keeping everything going down one path..

News people back then were not "stars" schmoozing with the would-be targets of their investigations.. They did not golf with the vice president or eat at the White House.. Their kids did not "intern" for congressman so-and-so..

The media of today is a different "animal"... The on-air/by-lined 'reporters' are breathing the air up above, and will gladly step away from any story if it appears to be dangerous for their own careers.. They have done it many times..
