Over 8,600 Katrina Victims Still Missing
On 10/11/05, the total number missing was over 9,400.

As of 10/22/05, there are still over 8,600 Katrina victims still missing (or missed by someone who can't locate them).

Why isn't this getting regular media attention? Where are these people? Are they in shelters or across the country from family/friends who can't locate them? Is the death toll higher than we know?

National Center for Missing Adults has a downloadable pdf file that lists over 6,800 adults are still missing/missed

National Center for Missing Children lists 1792 children are still missing/missed by a close family member in a downloadable Excel file

National Center for Missing Children said on 10/11/05 that the last of the unaccompanied children in Katrina shelters have been reunited with families. However....cases remain of children separated from or whose whereabouts are unknown to close family members. Most of the remaining cases appear to be examples of "fractured families." While a small number may not have survived the storm, apparently most of the children are in the care of a parent, grandparent or friend. Yet, another parent or close family member may not know the child's location or condition.

1. Yeah but they're ready for a blow in Florida. Got the FEMA's
standing around with their thumbs up their butts just so dubya will look like he's on top of things.

Lives don't matter to the bushco's, but face is mighty.

2. Yep. Thumbs in butts - the FEMA employees are more
demoralized than just about any other area in government.

:grr:

The official numbers are in and they are MUCH lower than expected, so please to ignore these pesky stories. :eyes:

7. Yes, I will be quite interested in what the missing number is in 1 year.
If there's even an official tally by then. I suspect some sinister things might have occurred to the "re-located" people. Especially those that have allegedly been relocated out West. With just a hint of tin foil, I bet we never hear from some of the relocated people again. I wonder what the official line will be? The disaster relocation provided a good cover for the disappearance of a few thousand people, if someone was so inclined to follow through.

10. I can't believe that we aren't
hearing anything about this. Well, I take that back, with this media

Why aren't they dedicating air time in all states to put the pictures and descriptions of these people on cable or satellite to be run as a Public Service Announcement?

Didn't they officially call off the body recovery a couple of weeks ago and within that time frame, found additional 80 bodies?

This disturbs me deeply. Talk about being forgotten. How terrible these families must feel. I am sure knowing your loved one is dead is horrific but not knowing is ten times worse. These people can't put together a memorial service or bury a body. On top of that, it is a slap in the face that no one seems interested in locating their loved ones remains.

The fact that Corp of Engineers are talking about demolition scheduled for next week and no one is addressing these missing people is just disgusting.

I am not directing my questions to anyone in particular, I just type and ask them out loud > my bad.

11. there was an article the other day about wreckage and flotsam washing
up on Texas beaches from NOLA. What the article didn't say was that bodies wouldn't wash up because they would have sunk or been eaten by ocean scavengers.

Lots of remains got swept out to sea and will never be found.

It's a tragedy.
