The Democrat Party
In NYC it seem to have descended into an eternal fight amongst wealthy dilettantes whilst Upstate the Democrat party is just one more line to run on. It's not uncommon to see someone running in a town or county race on the Republican, Democrat and Conservative lines simultaneously. Meanwhile good people go down in flames time after time.

3. RWers disparage dems by calling them the "Democrat Party"
I think we should call them the "Republicon Party"

7. And I strongly urge the poster to so do
That is one of those childish, red flag words. Idiot DeLay used it the other day, and looked like the whinging, whining thief that he is.

6. The republican characterization of our name has worked (unfortunately)
I have heard congressional democrats even call it "the democrat party".:grr:

I cringe everytime I hear it.. They started this a few years ago, and democrats just let them get away with it..

10. It's little shit like this that our dem "leaders" don't get
I'd be willing to bet that there was a repub talking point instructing repub pols, media talking heads and pundits and talk radio hatemongers to use the term "democrat party" and they've done very well at staying on message.

It pisses me off too, big time. The other term that raises my blood pressure is the infamous faux news phrase "homicide bomber".

12. Of course there is.. I remember when it started too..
Edited on Sat Oct-22-05 02:35 PM by SoCalDem
Callers on C-span all of a sudden started to, very pointedly, say "The DemocRAT party"...Democrats calling in afterwards would try to make the correction, and the hosts would say stuff like "Why does that bother you?:, or "What's the difference"..

Their "re-naming us" was deliberate and pervasive.. It's like calling a guy Billy, when he has told you repeatedly that his name is William.. It's done to rankle and irritate..

It's just like:
death tax
clear skies
healthy forests
partial birth abortion

15. I think it's the "crat" sound that makes it so annoying
You know, like "bureaucrat" or "technocrat". Maybe we should start referring to the repub party as "the autocrat party" or "the plutocrat party".

21. More than a few years ago
Gov. Connally of Tx. used it in Nixon's time(when that Zell Miller of his time switched parties, Agnew may have too, it is the language of turncoats) to wedge away the concept of democracy from being our party's monopoly- which of course, then as now, it was. I am sure it was not a new word game for Connally but likely a Nixonian way of trying to insult the party at the same time as being linguistically PC.

11. The "Democrat Party" expression started by Republican Pollster...
Lance Tarrance, to make the party seem less 'democratic'.

Folks need to e-mail The Guardian to tell its writers NOT to use this expression, which they often do!!!!

 I guess they don't like the idea of "democratic" since it is so difficult for them to say?

14. "Democrat Party" is more accurate.
Seeing that it's beholden to corporate "donations" (aka payoffs) as the also misnamed Republican Party, just not as much.

They both should change their names. The Capitalist Party. And, the Not-So-Capitalist Party.

20. I suggest you edit your subject line.
Unless of course you want the discussion to be what it's turned into, i.e. about the insulting publican meme "the Democrat Party." I have recently starting calling them "publicans" in retaliation, since I can't get them to stop doing it.
