I met W once
Confession time....this was in 1991, before he was governor. He spoke at an entrepreneur breakfast while he was GM of the Rangers. He approached me afterward and introduced himself. My opinion of him then was he was...(I'm so ashamed)...rather charming.

In my defense, this was while he was still articulate. I didn't vote for him for governor or certainly not preznit, but I never detested him until he got hooked up with his gang of thugs. I keep trying to see in the current man some trait of that guy I met. Zero.

1. I've heard rumors that when you are in his prescence...
...you can actually feel your IQ dropping. Is this true?

4. He is basically just a drug addict kid from a dysfunctional family
who started hanging out with the wrong crowd. A gang of Neocons who used him and his name to push their insane ideas forward. Unfortunately for George, once you check in you can never check out. That is unless their plan flops so badly they abandon him.

8. George the hapless victim? Hardly. Big boys make choices
He has made his, fully aware of the outcomes. His "wrong crowd" IS his crowd. Always has been, always will be.

30. So true
I find it interesting how Kerry and Bush were both picked into Skull & Bones. Kerry was picked because of who he was. Bush was picked because of his name and money.

5. It was never there.
He's a blue blood. He uses people for what he wants, but if they aren't in his class, he could care less about them. He smiles and is charming to people when he wants them to like him. But there's no substance to it--he's just manipulating people. The essence of his personality is fraud.

If he can't see a use for you, he won't pay any more attention to you than to the floor he's walking on.

when we were watching the Daily Show a few days ago. They flashed an old pic and he really does look like Mr. and Mrs. Bundy's little boy Ted.

10. My grandmother met him twice...
...once before he was governor then once afterward. She told me she shook his hand the first time, it was a fundraiser at a friends' home - she wanted to wash her hands immediately afterwards...

Said she felt very ill-at-ease with his charm.

He is one of the most genuinely smarmy individuals to walk the face of the earth. It's ALL bullshit.

Right up until the moment before they shove a knife between your shoulder blades, they are they most charming people on earth.

21. You know, looking back on that day
I've thought about this some...He spoke off the cuff, spontaneous, with humor. He wasn't bad at all. Maybe it was because he was talking about something he was actually interested in. I can only assume he's so unqualified (well, duh) and overwhelmed by the career path Rove put in motion. Man, I just wish he'd resign in disgrace and retire back to Dallas where he can be king of his abode and leave the rest of us alone.

22. Met him also, was not impressed
He was gov. but I voted for Annie. Also met Annie, introduced my son to her on his 18th birthday, wished him Happy Birthday and told him to go vote, he was impressed. Back to George, when we met him, Husband was on the School board, and our district was in alot of trouble, they brought Bush in to scare us I quess, more photo ops. Learned that if it is not a subject that is close to his heart, you can forget about it, because he is text book, nothing beyond what he has been briefed on. Just remembered, met him another time at my daughters elementary school, he read to them, probably Pet Goat. He was busy in our district, Texas politics is brutal.

23. TX politics is a joke....
I'm in Houston, all my partners live in Sugar Land/Fort Bend. They all know Delay, have for decades. Most believe he's probably guilty, but will get off. Most, Republicans all, don't like the guy, just acknowledge his power. As far as Ann.......I LOVE Ann. That was the first thing W did that ticked me off. I'm going to a Kinky Friedman lunch on Monday. That should be fun!

25. Saw Kinky with Bob Dylan, et al in the Rolling Thunder
Tour back in '74/75. Heard something about him, what's he running for? Knew some folks in Houston, a civil rights lawyer and a teacher's union leader. They had a lot of issues with Rod Paige in the 90s. In Europe now, sort of took Alec Baldwin's advice (of all people) and got out until the madness ends. If you are connected beyond the county level in the Dem party, probably have shared friends.

Apparently, Molly Ivins has met him and found him "charming" as well, so you're in good company. To tell you the truth, one of the hallmark characteristics of a sociopath is that they tend to be charming.

I appreciate your sharing the experience here. I find it quite interesting. From your experience, do you think he may have some sort of degenerative neurological process going on?

26. Yeah, I love Molly, being an ol Texas gal
And I totally agree with the characteristics of socio pathology * seems to display. I try and try to figure out what's going on with Bush, the man. It's got to be one of two things. Neurological deterioration, which is so frightening in that the people close to him have to see it as well and protect him (e.g. Reagan), or, as I said before, such extreme arrogance in the face of being totally overwhelmed. How could anyone defend the nonsense coming out of the mouth of this man? Maybe we do all rise to the height of our incompetence. Too bad the privileged get to make it to dangerously ignorant levels.

29. There was a caller last night on Malloy's show
She told how she is a Christian who doesn't like Bush and has really opened her eyes. She stated that Bush has probably changed a lot because of the people he surrounds himself with. I think Bush has probably always been the way he is personally. He hasn't changed. He's just more "out there" with how he is. He no longer has to have a nice personality and be charming to people. He owns everything in this country and the republican party is in control of the government.

31. absolute power corrupts
If you truly loved the Lord......you'd pay Him more than lip service. If you truly cared about the religious right, you wouldn't assign that job to Rove and his ilk.
