can I find 85 meaningful things to say between now and 5am tomorrow? I am not sure my first 915 posts set that high a bar.

1. Despite what people may say... 1,000 posts does not earn you |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-23-05 10:48 AM by expatriot
a magical "Cloak of Invulnerability." Skinner does not reward you with one of those until you reach 5,000. Get typing!
on edit: I just realized that I was 95 away from 5,000. Maybe I will let you borrow mine. Wow. I can't believe I am close to 5,000. I have been on DU since early 2002 and just hit 2,000 this spring. I have definitely increased my participation in the last few months.

3. at 10,000 posts you are given the magical "Sword of Caledonia" |
|
forged by the fires of Scion, that pour forth from an anonymous basement furnace in the bowels of Philadelphia, Pennsylvaania.
Lesson #1: Do not encourage expatriot. Do not feed expatriot. Do not taunt expatriot.

7. we are in Naples, about four blocks from |
|
the beach in a mandatory evacuation zone. With several large dogs, we always stay and ride it out (the kids are grown and gone). Our house has a heavy, tile roof and was built in 1957, so it has ridden out all of them without problem. We usually lose a few trees in these things (we've been here almost 30 years) but so far they have fallen the other way from the house. We don't go because they don't let you back until they are good and ready... Hopefully, it will rush through and be done quickly. Shelters won't take pets and the flu has started to go round.

10. I didn't think about the flu. That's another reason to stay away |
|
from shelters. We in Sarasota, so we will probably just lose power, although I'm in a wooden house and the windows are not boarded up so if we get strong winds, we may have some damage.
I'm hoping once Wilma hits the cooler water, she'll downgrade and move through fast.

We'll probably lose power, too. FPL = FLorida Phlicker & Light.
Hopefully, that will be the worst that happens. Stay safe. :hi:

But my interest is not in "improvement".
I wish for you a complete understanding of the truth, a revelation like that of the Apostle Paul--who was knocked off (on) his ass--an escape from the illusion of sorrow and sin and suffering. May the following days deliver you from all delusion and misery. Take hope--there is a way out.
I assume from your login name that you are the parent of a military member. I also have three sons in the military, two of whom have served in Iraq. I can empathize with what you must be feeling for your child. May s/he be returned to you safe and awakened!
The Goddess be with you, and with your family.

I will take hope.
Yes, I have a daughter and son-in-law in the A/F. They are not in Iraq yet, although she is scheduled to go. I don't know if I could live through something happening to either one of them, especially if it happens with so little meaning or purpose. I cry for all the military parents out there, especially the ones who have suffered the loss of their child.
I hope your sons returned in good shape and can avoid going back. I can empathize with you as well.
Thanks for writing. Blessings to you and yours as well.

if you have nothing pertinent or interesting to say - then don't say it. we are serious here, trying to get rid of the criminal bushgang.

Fuck meaningfulness. There is no meaning, anyway.
Gush from the heart, get drunk and pour forth stream-of-consciousness gibberish.
No one will know the difference.

they had to put up a special voting booth just for us. Imagine a polling place with twenty repuke booths and just one for us. Of course ours wasn't connected....but still, it was almost like real voting.

26. that would have made a great cartoon... |
|
but of course the Naples Daily News wouldn't have run it! I think Anderson Cooper is down there. Maybe you can hold up a DU sign behind him when he's doing his hurricane schtick on CNN. Al Roker (NBC weatherman) was on the beach this AM too.

It seems like such a struggle, questing for that 1000 number, the Holy Grail of the Board.
But then, once attained, it feels as though it was no effort at all.
And that it has no meaning whatsoever.
That's the Zen of DU. :)
The Goddess enlighten your keyboard, that you contribute effortlessly to the evolution of the Board--and may you set forth deep roots in the process.
