Anyone here seen the political murder mystery, 'Silver City'?
It's a GREAT movie that parodies Bush and does a WONDERFUL job documenting how the neocons are destroying the our country and the Earth in the name of privatization. And it's all wrapped up in a murder mystery story.

I just watched it last night and would recommend it to everyone here.

1. I saw it in the theater. There are many similarities to this regime.
It does parody Chumpy and his corporate hacks.

2. The DVD has a 'making of'. They got the idea for the movie after the 2000
election. Very good bunch of people working on the film.

Did it play in major theaters? I didn't hear about it until I saw it in a locally owned video store.

3. We enjoyed it!

We rented it from Netflix; the whole family watched it. The teen-agers really liked it and recommended it to their friends.

Cheers!

4. Absolutely great movie
We bought the DVD, just because of Chris Cooper's performance, which was the most brilliantly understated Fuckface mockery imaginable.

It lasted one or two weeks in theaters. Another John Sayles bit of genius unappreciated by the vulgarians of America.

::: sigh :::

5. Like it, but....
I felt it would have been a better movie if they'd done the outright satire I was expecting.

Nice seeing all the Denver locations.

7. The satire of Bush was there 100%... but the rest of it was kind of
lacking in outright satire.

It was very dark type of comedy during the movie, considering all the people making it are flaming liberals :-)

8. the DVD commentary is hilarious!
Edited on Mon Oct-24-05 03:17 PM by Lisa
Most of the time, I am disappointed with what directors/writers/actors say on those tracks, and end up going back to the regular soundtrack partway through. The most banal and self-serving stuff ends up there -- the worst being the producer of that pro-Bush movie "DC 9/11" patting himself on the back. But I loved the Silver City commentary (which was made before the 2004 election, so there was still some hope that Bush would not get a second term!).

It's one of the few commentaries I want to listen to again (the one for the Lemony Snicket movie, with the actual author, is another example of this).

Apparently, Chris Cooper was supposed to play the evil industrialist (Kristofferson's character) but got to be Dickie after his wife revealed that he was going around the house irritating her with a spot-on Bush impression. So they decided to use that.

10. if you have a calendar on the wall, turn it back to October 2004 ...
It's more entertaining if you pretend the election hasn't happened yet -- Sayles takes a lot of swipes at Bush. Mixed in with discussions about how they managed to get the film made on quite a small budget (thanks to goodwill from the actors, technical staff, etc.).
