Frank Rich makes a good point
(watching replay of MTP now)

He's referring to the tapes we've all seen a million times from Sept/Oct 2003 in which * and McClellan both say "if anyone in this administration violated the law, they will no longer work in this administration."

(As you recall, later * started saying, "if anyone in my administration committed a CRIME…"). Why the change in the rhetoric, Rich asks? Because, until December 30, 2003, the investigation was still solely in the hands of the DOJ, and until Ashcroft recused himself and the case went to Fitzgerald, the Bushies thought they were more or less in the clear. That they could parse until the cows came home.

(I think Frank thinks it's all over.)

1. So, do you think Ashcroft could stand the fascism and the looting, but not
out and out treason? Or did he just think not recusing himself would get him into too much trouble of his own?

Does this make Ashcroft an enemy of the bfee?

I was thinking at the time, that Ashcroft ran into something HE didn't want to be involved in...
