Sunday Monitor tonight had Greg Palast, discussing Harriet Miers & GTech
Edited on Sun Oct-23-05 11:16 PM by lostnfound
It was very interesting. You can download and listen at kpftx.org archives -- Sunday Monitor was on at 6 pm.

Talked about how Ben Barnes got a $22 or $26 million payoff for 'consulting services' by Gtech.

And about how Harriet Miers had her predecessor at the Texas Lottery Commission fired the day before he planned to award all future lottery business to a different company (not Gtech); the other company had won in competitive bidding. And how Miers allowed Gtech to keep the contract.

I am not doing the story justice here, but plan to listen again and post something tomorrow. But perhaps some DUers are particularly interested in the subject and may want to listen to the program in the meantime.

The overall takeaway from the interview was that the Supreme Court nomination was payback to Miers and that the Senate review of her appointment will open up a very big can of worms.

On edit: Also on was Joe Sudbay, Deputy Editor of AmericaBlog. He made an excellent point about Tim Russert -- Russert got the call from Rove a long time ago telling him about Valerie Plame, yet Russert just had a discussion asking a group of several people whether the White House lied in saying that no one at the White House was involved in the Plame outing. But Russert ironically is the only one in the group who has actually KNOWN all along that the White House was involved and in fact was lying about it.

(Bizarre world. Russert should be the one geting questioned, not doing the questioning. I'd like to ask this question "Why is it that the White House was soooo sure of press loyalty, that they could leak the Plame name to SIX major "reporters" and be certain that Rove/Libby/whoever would not become the TOPIC of the story instead of the source?"
Embedded.)
