OK, No Rove. Now What?
Let is say that sometime before the end of next week Rove resigns - as is probable. That will leave a void where the engineer of this hell-bound-train used to sit. Cheney may be the one to lay out national policy but its clearly Rove's hand that takes care of the execution as well as the political manipulation that hold this cabal in power.

When Rove leaves someone is certainly going to want to take his place. Who will that be? Certainly someone harbors ambitions to be the world's most powerful puppet master.

5. This is probably why the neocons are crapping it
If there are detailed hearings then a lot of really nasty tales will unfold. And the web of deceit is so complex a lot of people, including some who have not (yet) been investigated, are going to be in deepest poo as a result of what will be disclosed...under oath.

2. Only names I've heard were Gillespie and Mehlman.
They're both good enough at the BS. I don't think either is as cunning and vindictive al Rove though.

If Rove is gone, emotionally, it will be a HUGH blow to the Pub Party!

8. Fortunately Bush is only comfortable with people he has known
for decades; hence his appointing people to positions he has known for a long time. A new person will have to be someone he knows/likes, or they will have a hard time working with him. Whoever it may be, won't be as effective as Rove, or maybe even with the Christian Right that Rove has cultivated for so many years.

they will still use Rove and seek his advice.

He's been ruined before with Bush Sr for leaking to a reporter, and he clawed and bitch slapped his way back up the ladder.

I have no doubt he'll be hired a personal consultant with his "prison" confinement to his house with an ankle bracelet. Even in an orange suit they'd still consult with him.

Right now the Republican party doesn't know how to survive without Rove.

Ya think these goons were discussing department budgets? :sarcasm:

I think the reality hit home last week that Rove and Libby could be forced out...and then what. Look at all the speculation that came out toward the end of the week. It went from the big taboo question to one of the most asked. Surely Rove's absence as he builds the bunker didn't help things.

But I'm certain, just like in DeLay's situation...where's he's still running the show (amazingly Blount's lips do the moving) and Rove is too central to all the cronyism and levers of power to just vanish. Diminished yes, gone, no.

Remember, these goons are good at using proxies to do their dirty work. Karl can do this very well from his suburban home or in Texas as he can from the West Wing. People will still take his calls, he's still money in the bank with the big donors and he is slimy survivor who will find a way to maintain some kind of influence or power as long as the manchild sits in the oval office.

That's what when we can expect to see more of when Rove is gone.

Bush Minus Rove = Mike Dukakis

That is, in terms of public performance, not in terms of policy.

FYI: The woman who decided to put Dukakis in a tank is now a Republican.

An effective point of pressure, of human (WH staff, media and congressional) control will be removed from most aspects of it's sphere of influence. An enforcer lost. A capo removed. Know what I mean?

Will some in the WH, in the CM and in Congress, those who have been covered by Rove's wet blanket of control, explore their expanded freedoms?

Will the leaks grow? Will fear of backlash and prosecution exceed fear of *co retribution?

As Libby , Rove and many other SADISTIC NE-CON EVANGELICAL ACTIVISTS await trial indictment or sentencing the true (Values) of the (The F.O.G. Elite) are coming to public view. I just found out that a Statement on Federal Emergency Assistance for Louisiana was issued around the 27th of Aug. Was this a plant ? This document says that BUSH and FEMA were in control of the emergency response to Katrina not Nagin and Blanco. Given BUSH's in action during the disaster and his history of neglect in New Orleans SELA funding starting with his 2001 Tax Cut(1#). I to wonder when this was typed is this a cover up in progress? Is some one trying to obfuscate some thing ?
