2. Honestly, I've been slightly disappointed in Colbert's show
I only saw it once, it was funny when he did his over the top O'reilly, but he couldn't seem to keep in character for more then a few lines straight...

5. Colbert's too nice, and they're still getting into a rythym.
First few eps of any series are always a bit shaky. I think they'll get into it.

Colbert's problem is he's not a genuine asshole like O'Reilly. He says his asshole lines so completely tongue-in-cheek you can't even imagine him as playing the character, just as a comedian spoofing the character.

6. I love it...it's hilarious, at least to me.
But to each his own I suppose.

8. I am enjoying it. I cringed, though, when it came to knocking Brady. I get
what they are doing but it offended my husband (a conservative) something awful. I tried to explain that they were making fun of O'Lielly et al but he said it was too far beyond the pale.

9. Nobody is immune on the CR or TDS
It's on a comedy show - you KNOW what the intentions are (so be funny). Not like someone did it on a news show and so you couldn't tell what their intentions were.

15. The Early Daily Shows Were Real Bad, Too
Not sure how many here remember when Craig Kilbourn started the show (talk about lame...is he still alive???) and the outrage that the show was not only going to have a live audience, but be hosted by an MTV jock...this unknown stand-up known as Jon Stewart. The initial shows with Stewart were brutal as well...and I would say it took at least a year for the show to start cranking out some real cutting edge stuff (having Mo Rocca as your "main correspondent" didn't help, either).

Another show I remember getting panned was Conan O'Brian. Most were expecting another Letterman and didn't know what to make of Conan at the outset. Maybe the same thing could be said about Craig Ferguson...I just think it'll take another 50 years for it to set in. LOL.

Colbert needs to find his real personna here. The interviews are his weak link...and it looks like the guests are either uncomfortable or unsure that only makes the segment awkward. The writing is solid and in time things will start to flow. Comedy Central has a lot invested here (as does Stewart), they're gonna give this show all it needs to succede.

10. TDS has been a POS lately.
JS Really sucked up to O'Leilly - the only good part of the show was the audience reaction.

Last month, he sucked up to Santorum.

I don't know if he recently became afraid of the RW, or if he was always a pussy, but I have stopped watching...

JS's style reminds me too much of Dennis Miller, anyway.

Why doesn't Lewis Black have his own show? THAT would really ROCK!!! They could keep the "Back In Black," or change it to "Black Like ME?"

11. Lewis Black...
Lewis doesn't write "Back in Black" and hasn't for quite some time. The TDS staffers write it and he comes in strictly to shoot it. He said so in an interview I read or watched.

Additionally, get some of his CDs and you begin to realize that he's not much more than a standard-issue observational comic with the attitude turned up to 11. It SEEMS like he's saying something, but he talks a lot about weather, traffic and other completely mundane stuff. He's sure as hell no heir apparent to Bruce, Carlin, Pryor or Hicks.

The only really good social activist comedy being done on national radar anymore, that I can see, is Chappelle, and he took a powder.

Jon Stewart let O'Stupid hang himself. And it was VERY effective.

14. Stewart has never made a habit of attacking guests.
There've been a couple of notable exceptions, like the guy who wrote that idiotic "People who are Messing Up America" book, but even then- he was 5 times more cordial than a guy like O'Reilley.

17. O'Reilly was just doing his schtick. JS was egging him on.
Thursday's show w/Reconstructing Harriet was funny as hell. Well, except for The Crock commenting on Jon's hard on. :eyes:

...about Bush "driving the country into a ditch." Kristol has looked completely demoralized lately; this could be good.
