WHY are there no reports about what is going on today with Fitz.
Certainly there are comings and goings at the courthouse. How come no news?

1. I'm not surprised

First, the only comings and goings are probably the GJ and the prosecutors. Not much news there given that none of them are going to say anything to reporters.

Second, this may be a lull before the firestorm. More speculations won't serve any purpose. Unless there's a new leak of some import we probably won't hear anything until Fitzmas arrives.

on edit: I'm hanging on tight. This is an extremely anxious moment.

3. The rumor mill had it that today was the day he was delivering the
"Hey, you, you're FUCKED!!!" letters. This gives the fuckees time to speak with their attorneys, clean out their desks, and let their bosses know that they need either a leave or are resigning.

Once the notifications are done, then we will hear something. Some of the targets may whine to friends, who will leak, but eventually a list will be issued.

6. Now now, MADem, I believe they are called 'target letters' -
a much more pleasant euphemism.

I mean, we wouldn't want these LYING CHEATING THEIVING BASTARDS WHO ARE FUCKED to feel bad, would we?

13. Target letter is not required for indictment
The United States Attorney manual does not require that targets be notified before indictment; it simply states that the prosecutor is "encouraged" to notify targets before seeking an indictment against them:

"When a target is not called to testify pursuant to USAM 9-11.150, and does not request to testify on his or her own motion (see USAM 9-11.152), the prosecutor, in appropriate cases, is encouraged to notify such person a reasonable time before seeking an indictment in order to afford him or her an opportunity to testify before the grand jury, subject to the conditions set forth in USAM 9-11.152. Notification would not be appropriate in routine clear cases or when such action might jeopardize the investigation or prosecution because of the likelihood of flight, destruction or fabrication of evidence, endangerment of other witnesses, undue delay or otherwise would be inconsistent with the ends of justice."

During an interview with MSNBC host Dan Abrams on the October 6 edition of The Abrams Report, former U.S. Attorney Solomon Wisenberg confirmed that target notification is "not an absolute requirement."

if that counts for you. He says he probably will announce something the middle of next week. He also said he has the option of extending the deadline if he wishes to.

10. I can't wait to hear the Fitz speak period.
At least I'm hoping he's the one that will have a press conference and not his spokesman. I have never heard the man talk. Oh, to be one of the jurist...I'm betting he's very persuasive.:)

12. Because a hurricane is a bigger story than something that hasn't happened.
What should they do, forget about the hurricane to speculate STILL MORE on something they know nothing about? Oh, wait, that's what they normally do... But still, there's no story on the investigation yet. We've gone from hoping Rove will be indicted to hoping the whole Republican Party is arrested and summarily executed only because we have nothing to do but dream up how bad it could be for Bush.

Soon. Very soon. I can wait.
