Cocoa Beach is my home town...what did I just miss on MSNBC?
I just turned on the teevee, and Sean...er, Seen, er McWhateverthefuckface is talking about the video they showed of Cocoa Beach (I live in CT now). No one EVER talks about Cocoa Beach unless it's a trivia question about "I Dream of Jeannie," so what did I miss??? Is the island still there???

2. Serious destruction even though 100 miles from eye
My parents live in Boca and we have been on the phone with them throught the day. So far, the fence is down, trees are down, my 84 yo dad thinks he's tarzan went out in the storm and was nearly hit by a falling tree, my mom is PISSED!!!!! His car IN the gargage was hit by a falling attic trap door and broke the windshield. Fruit trees down, oranges everywhere. No power, but they thought to cook up food ahead and will use a camp stove OUTSIDE to heat dinner when things calm down. Thank God the phone still works!!! I hope your loved ones in Cocoa are a okay!!!!

3. Cocoa Beach and Cocoa are different towns, miles apart!
It confuses everyone, and always pissed off us locals! Cocoa is on mainland Florida, along the Intracoastal waterway, or "Indian River." Across the Intracoastal is Merritt Island. Cocoa Beach is a barrier island across the Mosquito Lagoon from Merritt Island, a pretty good distance from Cocoa, and sharing almost nothing in common with it's mainland namesake.

I saw film of "Cocoa" on teevee, and it did look like the mainland...Cocoa Beach is so narrow, the helicopter shots I was seeing were pretty obviously mainland, and not the beach. "CB" is so narrow, literally a sandbar, that I fear the worst. Thanks for the update!

5. Thank you!
We lived at the end of Minuteman, near the high school. My wife is on the phone now with relatives in Merritt Island...at least she got through!
