Help me with zip code 37600 and FOB New York address.....

I have a client who hasn't seen her son for several years, and when Katrina hit she feared for his life, because she had received mail from him postmarked "Gulfport, MS."
She received a birthday card from him this week postmarked "Northeast TN," with zip code 37600. The return address was his name followed by FOB New York, N.Y.

I have been trying to find this address without any luck. Is this possibly an overseas address?

I'm E. TN and ours is 37660. Looking up the one you listed there was nothing.

3. OK - but it was stamped on a postmark.

I don't think you would be able to fake it; it was too professional looking.
Is it possible it is an embarkment point for mail from overseas?

Nothing in the United States, as far as I know.

But it is the code for Loches, France.

I can only guess someone misread the zip code on the envelope.

An FOB indicates he is in the military. CCan't your client contact them?

6. Thanks - she doesn't know what he is doing.

He is in touch with her, but not with other members of the family, and doesn't communicate what he is doing. She thinks he might be in the military, but not sure in what capacity.
Right now she is just grateful that he is alive.
I thought APO was military.

7. Both APO and FPO are military addresses.

I don't know the difference, but I know they are only used when the military member is out of the country. My son is in Sicily and his address is an FPO out of NI just noticed the OP said FOB. That's not really part of an address as far as I know. It means Free On Board, and indicates the point from which a purchaser must pay the shipping charges for something.

I've been wondering what the FOB stood for. The only thing I could find online was in regard to pharmaceuticals from Canada.

I'm wondering if he is deliberately trying to confuse his mother. It just seems cruel.
