Latest RW talking point
Edited on Mon Oct-24-05 09:31 PM by proud2Blib
This was a LTTE in my local paper today.

War, Plame leak

Regarding the Valerie Plame leak investigation: The thought that this affair was part of a bigger conspiracy to sell the Iraq war based on false premises or lies strikes me as absurd.

Members of both parties on the foreign affairs committees had access to classified information. Everyone was capable of assessing the real threat of a third-rate dictator, even with a weapon of mass destruction, against the power of the United States.

I think this struggle to “get” Karl Rove or others is a way for politicians (who should have stood up earlier and done the right thing) to now claim they were “tricked.”

Give me a break. We had sufficient facts to make an intelligent decision the first time.

Stephen Kunz

1. Well, I agree that we had sufficient facts to make an intelligent
decision, but I don't agree that we (as a nation) made one.

6. And they spent how many years investigating Clinton?
So from this letter, I get that it's okay to spend years investigating a president's sex life but not okay to spend years investigating a charge of treason by the current administration.

8. And over a damn BJ! C'mon, he didn't drag us into a WAR!
Based upon lies, did he? He didn't get thousands of people killed and thousands upon thousands wounded and/or maimed for life, did he?

Clinton was one of the most loved presidents in history, the entire world loved him. Heck, france was still our ally under his administration, now one of our oldest allies barely talks to us. These are the SAME people that gave us the statue of liberty!!!

4. At every turn, they made the WRONG decision.
To invade.
Who to invade.
When to invade.
How many troops to send.
What to do immediately after the invasion.
etc.
etc.
etc.

7. They were using incorrect information
Edited on Mon Oct-24-05 09:30 PM by proud2Blib
So no wonder the decisions were wrong.

10. They had the right info. They had the wrong policy agenda(s).
Also, we should consider that they have in fact been SUCCESSFUL (their definition, no ours).

They swept the 2002 midterms, got Bush reelected, started the "desired" war, drained the treasury, made lots of money and created chaos in the M.E.

But they lied, and their agenda was personal (i.e. not in the better interests of the US) and those 2 things are coming to light now.....

12. That's it in a nutshell. They had the right info, and they had staff
who told them the truth. They chose, instead, to pretend to believe in a lie.

5. We were lied to over and over and over again
So I do not believe we had sufficient facts.

13. Most of the *public* didn't have sufficient facts, but our government
did. They just chose to lie about it. I don't understand how this person can deny that ... he must be in denial.

3. To be honest, it's crap like this
that makes me so glad I am not a USian. However, I really wish my weak government (the Liberals w/PM the PM), were more, how should I say this... I know... people with spine and balls! Goddamn! I think we should get the hell out of NAFTA, cut off the energy, and let the U.S. (under the neo-con/Bush cabal) sink in their own swamp. I know that the average American (who I do like) will suffer. But come on! I almost wish that Ann Coulter was right.... I agree with her... I wish we could cut ourselves off from the continent. Except for the Mexico part.

9. I don't think they did have all the facts....
Lets not forget one very important act that is often overlooked:

Congress did not vote to go to war. Congress voted to give Bush the authority to go to war if necessary. They gave Bush a loaded gun, but Bush is the one that pulled the trigger!

Saddam new that Bush could not touch him unless Congress gave Bush permission. When Congress gave Bush permission that gave Bush some leverage with Saddam.

This just sounds like someone in denial to me: >>>"The thought that this affair was part of a bigger conspiracy to sell the Iraq war based on false premises or lies strikes me as absurd."
