Questioned this leak at this late date and said Libby was crazy for lying if there were notes concerning Cheney's involvement.

I just realized why *uckers face is all over the place! Republican talking heads either don't want to talk about it or they were told not to. So all they have is Carlson out on every show.

19. Tucker was blaming Fitzgerald for allegedly leaking information |
|
The others said the leak is not coming from Fitzgerald but from Libby's attorney. Maybe letters have already been sent out by Fitzgerald to attorneys giving them a 'heads up' regarding the forthcoming indictments. I think that if this hits close to Cheney, they are going to try to build a wall around the Chimp to save him (the same way Reagan appeared to be screened off). If there's no saving Cheney, they'll feed him to the wolves and claim it was all his doing,. They pile on Cheney at this point if it will help the neocons retain power and preserve their trained monkey. Anyway, I'm sure Cheney has a lot of future Halliburton contracts to look forward to, once he's officially left office.

22. If they're eager to give up Cheney it means they're worried for the Chimp |
|
If they appear too eager to put all of the blame on Cheney, it makes me think that Bush at least had knowledge of all that went down and lied about it to the people. They're trying to save Bush the way Reagan was saved during Iran Contra.

15. overview - panel felt it was a political bombshell for Cheney and the WH, |
|
saw no legal fallout for the VP, though...a legal bombshell for Libby, he's in deep shit.
Though Tucker Carlson tried to pin this GJ info leak to the NYT on Fitzgerald, the wiser heads let him know that it would behoove Libby's "public" defense to get this out now, leak it, knowing it would be in the indictment get to the spin ahead of the indictments.

The only way I can see there being no legal fallout for Cheney is if he told Fitz this from the beginning. Anyone think that's the case?

21. If Cheney and Libby discussed Plame AMONG THEMSELVES, it was no crime. |

It looks like Libby may be PROTECTING Cheney. "Dick mentioned Plame to me and I took it on myself to make it public."

He's going to make a go at playing martyr unless Fitz gets him to turn on Cheney. Unlikely, though.
I do think you're right.

27. It was a crime if Cheney had reason to know Libby would talk to the press |
|
under the Espionage Act. That involves situations where the possessor of the information has "reason to know" it will eventually be communicated to unauthorized persons, even if the person with whom the information is shared has authorization. This may be where the mole in the White House fits in.

28. Here is the possible crime |
|
From the NY Times:
It would not be illegal for either Mr. Cheney or Mr. Libby, both of whom are presumably cleared to know the government’s deepest secrets, to discuss a C.I.A. officer or her link to a critic of the administration. But any effort by Mr. Libby to steer investigators away from his conversation with Mr. Cheney could be considered by Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the special counsel in the case, to be an illegal effort to impede the inquiry.
I would think this would work both ways meaning if Chency made and effort to steer the investigators away from his conversation with Libby. Right?

Libby got caught lying and knows his ass is in a sling. Any chance he cut a deal with Fitz to come clean and finger Cheney?

23. The meeting was before Wilson's OpEd, so I guess Cheney could present |
|
it and the discussion as a routine part of business (Cheney and Libby both had security clearance)to talk about the Wilson trip to Niger and there was mention of his wife in the discussion....
Looks like we may find out before too long...
The sense on the TV panel was that it would be a stretch for Fitz to find a crime in the particular meeting itself, unless there's stuff none of us know...and *that* sure seems probable.
