Breaking: Wurmser ordered by VP's office to out Plame

That's what rawstory is now reporting. The NY times article tells us how the VP's office found out about Plame. But this may tell us how the info then went to reporters:

"Within a week, Wurmser, on orders from "executives in the office of the vice president," was told to leak her name to a specific group of reporters in an effort to muzzle her husband, Wilson, who had become a thorn in the side of the administration, those close to the inquiry say. It is unclear who Wurmser had spoken with in the media, the sources said, but they confirmed he did speak with reporters at national media outlets about Plame."

There is no crime in Tennet telling Cheney or Cheney telling Scooter. Those three have clearance to classified info. The crime is in then outing Plame by passing the classified info on.

Rawstory's sources are claiming that after the VP's office learned Plame's identity, they directly ordered Wurmser to out her to get back at Wilson. This is the key info that connects the VP's office to an actual crime.

Why hasn't Tenet ever testified in this whole affair? I'll tell you why, because Tenet requested the investigation to begin with and has been telling Fitz everything he wants to know all along. And why would Tenet do that? Because Tenet provided Cheney the info, never thinking for a minute that they'd use it to out Plame, and he's pissed that they did something so reckless with the info he provided. That's what I think.

30. Why would Tenet tell Cheney, anyway? For what purpose?

We've already heard stories of how Cheney would go to the CIA (unprecedented visits) and basically arm-twist people who worked there to craft information to suit his agenda. I can just see Cheney arm-twisting someone for info regarding Joe Wilson. The CIA surely has a database of "important" American citizens, right? In that database would be Valerie Plame's name as the spouse of Joe Wilson. Dig a little deeper and there lies all the info Cheney needed to stop Brewster Jennings in its tracks and retaliate against Wilson.

Cheney must have thought he hit the mother lode.

No doubt in my mind that this man, one of the most ruthless and powerful politicians we've ever witnessed, knew of Ms. Plame's status and revealed it for his own purposes. Whether Fitzgerald can prove it or not is another story.

Wurmser may have known about Plame since she worked on WMDs and that was his focus as he was trying to build the case for war. Wurmser may have then passed this info on to Cheney, who promptly requested information on Plame from Tenet. THAT would be why Tenet provided the information, because it was a direct request.

Such a serious request, Tenet should have made a report of it somewhere. I just can't see Cheney wiggling out of this. How many other vice presidents have requested this type of information, ever?

The NYT says Cheney and Libby discussed Wilson's wife. It doesn't say Cheney "ordered" a smear campaign, or even that he had her name specifically. Raw Story says Wurmser got instructions from Cheney's office, not Cheney himself. So whether Cheney gets indicted will depend on whether somebody else heard Cheney give the order or whether Libby turns. I thought maybe Karl opened the flood gates, but now I'm not so sure. Wurmser is who originally led me to think it was Bolton who got her name, I ran across Wurmser's name as a liason when I wrote this up back in July. I didn't think Libby & Cheney would be this stupid.
