SUPERSTORM 2005 THREATENS NORTHEAST: WIND, RAIN, SNOW, FLOODING
http://wwwa.accuweather.com/news-weather-headlines.asp

STATE COLLEGE, PA (AccuWeather.com) -- AccuWeather.com meteorologists say Hurricane Wilma and the remnants of Tropical Storm Alpha will be drawn north along the Atlantic coast. By Tuesday they will be absorbed into a large low pressure system that will develop off the Virginia Capes, forming a "super-storm" that is expected to bring wind, rain, snow and flooding to the Northeast.

TAKE COVER NEW ENGLANDERS! And just in time for the INDICTMENT STORM 2005!

10. I don't agree... NH and MA are both at real risk
Edited on Mon Oct-24-05 11:10 PM by berni_mccoy
NH had serious damage, flooding and deaths from 9 straight days of rain (Keene, Almstead NH) and Taunton MA nearly lost a dam.

I think there could be some real damage done here.

11. the dam in Taunton was
183 years old!!
That was neglect!
The rain and run-off just aggravated the problem.
That's all fixed now.
The old dam has been replaced by huge rocks!

This storm is going to bring some rain and wind but
not like last weeks storm and it is moving fast and heading
to Nova Scotia where it will diminish in strength to a rain storm.
This storm has the potential for 2" to 3" of rain over time...
not dumping it all at once.
Some places may have some flooding but they probably
always flood and that's from neglect too!
The street across from me has been flooding for the last five years.
Why?
Because the town was to cheap to get it repaired.
They just, finally fixed it, just before that storm last week.
Guess what?
No flooding!

I think the alarmist's need to calm down.
Save the drama for the 'real' emergencies!
;)

16. That dam could still go if there was enough heavy rain. It was damaged
by the last round. And there are lots of other questionable dams all around MA - the governmor has just called for a study of them.

This is potentially serious. There has been so much rain these past weeks in MA - it's raining right now, in fact - and a major prolonged storm could do some real damage.

older people 'cause I am one' and I was referring to
the little old ladies at the store who were all in a lather.
I didn't say 'old farts' nor did I say 'senile' or 'old bitties'
I said 'older people'.
They weren't 'younger' people or I would have said that too!
They were gray haired and wrinkled.
Seemed 'older' to me!
;)

PS. If you aren't newborn, then you are older.

17. Here's what Jeff Masters says about the hit to New England:
http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/show.html
New England
On Tuesday, Wilma will dramatically affect New England's weather. A separate powerful Nor'easter storm will develop next to the coast of New England on Tuesday, and moisture feeding back from Wilma into the Nor'easter will drench much of Rhode Island, southeast Massachusetts, and surrounding areas with 2 - 4 inches of rain. Winds from the combined Nor'easter/Wilma storm will reach sustained levels of 40 - 50 mph over the waters near Cape Cod, and bring wind gusts of 50 mph to New York City, Providence, and Boston. A storm surge of 1 - 3 feet with 20 foot waves is expected to cause moderate flooding along the coast of southeast Massachusetts. As Wilma continues northeast on Wednesday, New Brunswick and Newfoundland will experience tropical storm force winds, heavy rain, and coastal flooding.

18. OK..well..it is a storm after all! But
this was posted by local weatherman at around 11pm tonight...
er....last night.

http://www1.whdh.com/news/articles/local/BOS7738/

FROM PETE BOUCHARD: I've seen busy weather maps in my time,
but I ain't seen anything like this since winter.
Lows, highs, fronts, cold, warmth, wind, waves -
pure weather erotica.

First off, the developing nor'easter.
We would have gotten it with or without Wilma.
More of the same wet weather. Nothing new.
But with Wilma scooting close to the storm,
we may be in for more than we bargained for.
If the storm is strong enough, it MAY absorb Wilma,
giving us possible nor'cane (new word I made up) where
snow is flying on one side of the Commonweath (Berkshires),
and the wind and rain are pummeling the other side.

Nonetheless, even with Wilma nearby, the storm will be energized.

We'll be whapped with wind and rain like a reporter in a hurricane.
I expect 1-3 inches of rain with this storm -
small potatoes when compared to last week -
likely not enough to initiate flooding.
But WIND, not necessarily rain, are the worries this go-round.
This storm has the potential for tropical storm force winds
(39-73mph) for the Cape and both the North and South Shores
of Boston through Tuesday night.

It's tough to keep up, but we'll do our best...
...or you can help yourself with the links below.
I hope your with me when it's over. (Loverboy)

Pete
-----------------------------------------------------
See? Even he said it was small potato's!
It's the wind gusts that will be the problem!
The people on The Cape are used to this.
The biggest problem with a northeastern storm is erosion.
I'm not worried.
I've been in worse snowstorms and hurricane's up here.
This still, from what I see out my window, doesn't seem like
that big of a deal at all! It's raining at a normal rate.
And the snow they're talking about is up in the higher elevations.
Like Mt.Greylock area!
Nothing to write home about! IMHO!
I guess we'll all know better come morning!

My Latest Weather Bug Alert:
High Wind Advisory As of 9:41 PM EDT on October 24, 2005

... High Wind Warning remains in effect from 4 am to 6 PM EDT
Tuesday...

A High Wind Warning remains in effect from 4 am to 6 PM EDT
Tuesday.

The strongest winds are likely to overspread the South Coast...
cape and islands before sunrise then expand up the East Coast of
Massachusetts during the morning. Sustained winds of 30 to 45 mph
with gusts of 65 mph appear possible.

A High Wind Warning is issued when sustained winds of 40 mph are
expected for at least an hour... with gusts of 58 mph or greater
at any time. Damage to trees... power lines... and property are
possible with wind of this magnitude. High profile vehicles are
vulnerable in winds of strength and travel over some of the
higher bridges in southeast New England may be very difficult
during the height of the event Tuesday.

I'm sure there will be some damage but I'm not worried.

20. Thanks for this. I'm in eastern MA and will be watching closely.
The ground is soaked, so with high winds, there may be more tree downings than usual. The usual streets in the greater Boston area will probably flood - they always do and people know to expect it. I do hope there won't be pressure on that damaged old Taunton dam.

21. The dam in Taunton is NO MORE!
They knocked it down and put huge granite boulders there.
They built a new dam and all the people went home
and downtown is open for business!
That dam was 183 yrs. old and was privatly owned
by one of the old mills.
They never repaired it or barely!
Neglect!
See what I mean?

All is well!
lol!

My only 'bitch' is that my living room window is leaking.
It has been for a couple of years now when it rains.
My landlord doesn't believe me.
I don't know why.
I keep telling him, he checks and says it's ok.
Go figure but that's another story!

I like that line!!

"he sounds like a Republican,
able to disbelieve inconvenient facts with a single bound!"

Yup! It, the water, just started pouring on the floor and under my couch.
MUST be MY imagination! lol
I just ran and got two large bath towels but it is still dripping.
I think it stopped raining...I don't hear it now.
But we just got a huge wind gust and I can hear the tree's moving
in the wind. Oh..ok...there's the rain. Maybe this WILL get worse
before it gets better!?!
But I'm going to go niter's for now.
Lay down and watch the news.
BTW?
CBS 'Up To the Minute' is doing a special on "Aging Dams"
and they covered that dam in Taunton.
Just thought you might want to take a look at it!
They repeat the stories all night.
They're also talking about the 'super-storm' in the Nor'East...
I hate that word....grrrrr! "nor'east"...
It's NORTH EASTERNER!! gheesh! lol
lolololol

Yeah...winds are picking up....right on time.
