Focus on the Family's latest anti woman screed...Leon Kass
in the group's journal Boundless....this is discussed on many blogs

http://blogs.salon.com/0002874/2005/10/18.html#a1929

from this blog's discussion

....

And now we come to Leon's secondary point: women have no right to be as sexually active as men, because, um, it's just not right! Anyway, it's not what nature intended for them.

"But most young women strike me as sad, lonely, and confused; hoping for something more, they are not enjoying their hard-won sexual liberation as much as liberation theory says they should."

And if they aren't sad, lonely, and confused, then they damn well ought to be, the Jezebels!

....

"women chronically disappointed in the failure of men "to commit." For the first time in human history, mature women by the tens of thousands live the entire decade of their twenties — their most fertile years — neither in the homes of their fathers nor in the homes of their husbands; unprotected, lonely, and out of sync with their inborn nature."

In times past, mature women in their twenties lived under the protection of a man, and thus were in sync with their inborn nature to be a treated as inferior beings.

"Some women positively welcome this state of affairs, but most do not; resenting the personal price they pay for their worldly independence, they nevertheless try to put a good face on things and take refuge in work or feminist ideology."

Most women hate the fact that have to support themselves while they are in their twenties. They also hate it that they are allowed to have jobs, vote, and own property. They all wish that they could meet a man like Leon, who would rescue them from a life of independence and allow them to do what they were created for: have babies, cook meals, and mop floors (but only with the mop that their husbands have chosen for them).

much more....

Where is this guy from???? I can only guess he must be 90+ years old and never leaves his little sheltered den!

If something like that was published in ANY PAPER, in ANY State or Town, there would be more LTTE's than the Post Office could deliver!

The last time I heard a sincere comment like that was from the founder of the Co. I worked for. That was in 1978, and he was 79 years old then!

2. I suspect that...
Ol' Leon leads a very lonely life. These sound like the fantasies of a bitter man who couldn't get laid in a whorehouse with a fistfull of $50s.

5. Dobson is a Radical Cleric of the Religious Reich - has his own zip code
"Dr." James Dobson is a big-time Fundamentalist Radical Cleric. His Hate Training Camp, "Focus on the Family" is so large it has it's own zip code.

Cognitive Neuroscientist and progressive thinker Dr. George Lakoff considers Dobson to be the chief architect and propagandist of the hard-right mentality of the "values voters". Lakoff demonstrates how Dobson has taken his strong-father, wife-dominating, child-beating model of family life and transformed it into a metaphor for national policy.

9. He's been around for years
Edited on Tue Oct-25-05 01:22 AM by undeterred
preaching his ultra conservative ethics as if it came from the mouths of Plato and Aristotle. I studied at the University of Chicago and have a couple of his books. He is a highly intelligent and educated man (unlike the groups he associated with now) but the conclustions he comes to are outlandish. He also went to medical school.

He predicted terrible things would happen as a result of invitro fertilization. Gee Whiz.

Its good to have somebody play Devils Advocate when you wrestle with these ethical problems. But he actually believes what he says.

His wife is a professor at the University of Chicago also. So here is a man involved in educating highly intelligent women who go on to have brilliant careers- he's actually contributing to them subverting their true natures. :hippie:

He's an odd one to hang around with Focus on the Family. He's Jewish.

10. And another thing
Anton Scalia came from the University of Chicago Law School. I always thought of him and Kass as birds of a feather. When Scalia was appointed to the Supreme Court somebody wrote an article in the student paper which quoted him as saying that women should stay home and raise children and bake cookies... and not have careers.

Another great guy to have involved in the higher education of women or to make judicial decisions that affect the lives of women.

These men come from academia but they hate that there are so many women there, and that places like the University of Chicago are known for producing independent thinking women like Susan Sontag. It just kills them so they have to spend the substance of their careers putting women in their place.
