Follow the Yellowcake Road! OH MY!
The focus by many on the administration's outing of Valerie Plame is misplaced. The Plame outing is just one of many skirmishes in a much larger war, a propaganda war to lead our country into war with Iraq. The true center of the Fitzgerald investigation is the forgery of documents purporting to confirm an Iraqi effort to purchase Niger yellowcake uranium, to be used in a program of WMD by Saddam Hussein. These were the documents that President Bush referred to in his State of the Union Address, and that were used to justify the war. The only remaining question is just who forged them.

This article has a great explanation of what happened and also details the specific claims made by Judy Miller that were later proved to be false:

<snip>
The IAEA had been right. There had been no attempt whatsoever to reconstruct Saddam's nuclear weapons program.

Furthermore, Wilson revealed that a year before the invasion he had found no evidence in Niger that Saddam had even thought of reconstructing it.

So, now you know why someone forged the Niger yellowcake documents. But who forged them? And when did they forge them?

Here's a hint: maybe "fixing" intelligence includes forging.
