Where it all began: Cheney's secret energy meetings -- maps of IRAQ!!
Edited on Tue Oct-25-05 01:09 PM by garybeck
FOIA request from Judicial Watch revealed they were looking at maps of Iraq oil fields in 2001, in Cheney's secret "energy task force" meetings. It has not been widely reported but the FOIA requests resulted in disclosure of maps of Iraq that they were looking at, with oil fields clearly indicated:

This is old news but it is BIG news considering the "ongoing investigation." In my view it's the nail in the coffin. It's the first piece of evidence and the last piece of evidence that brings everything together - DSM, Plame, Whig, Niger, it all leads to the task force.

Read the 2003 press release and view the maps here:

1. Do you think Fitz might be able to find out
who attended the meeting?

2. I think Ahhhnaaaald
was there.

Can't imagine WHY an actor would be at a WH meeting about energy in 2001. One would think he was being groomed for a government post or something.

10. This should be brought before the public once again. They may be paying
more attention now that it looks like Cheney is in trouble.

3. You are exactly right.
But here is the deal as unfortunate as it sounds.

Meeting and planning for a war of convenience is not a crime. Executing that war is not in and of itself a crime.

At best Cheney would be guilty of consipract to commit Fraud. I am not sure that is winnable. To the extent that the Neo-cronies lied to COngress is likely a crime but Fitz would not go after such charges because of seperations of powers issue.

But the real gotcha heae is in obrtuction and perjury charges.

That is where this blows up in Cheney's face IMO.

6. But the qualifier on a fraud charge
I believe has to be financial benefit. It is concievable that that is where this might end up and would be the basis for opening up the records of those ETF meetings.

If i recall Cheny won the disclosure case because, there was no evidence of a Crime. this might open the door.

4. Upon invasion, Army streaks past military base looting to get to oil.
The image that comes to mind is the "crude oil" scene from "Three Kings." The one where Marky Mark Wahlberg asks his Iraqi captors, "Why do you hate us?" They shove a cd between his teeth and make him drink crude oil. I think that would be a good punishment for our Vice President.

8. That's just it, though. That's why this scandal never hit home
Its too cerebral, requires too much thought.

The public isn't interested or intelligent enough to put the pieces together.

9. no, it's just because the media didn't report it.
the public eats whatever the media feeds it. if they made big headlines of these maps, Cheney would have been indicted months ago.
