I. Lewis Libby Jr., Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, first learned about the C.I.A. officer at the heart of the leak investigation in a conversation with Mr. Cheney weeks before her identity became public in 2003, lawyers involved in the case said Monday. Notes of the previously undisclosed conversation between Mr. Libby and Mr. Cheney on June 12, 2003, appear to differ from Mr. Libby's testimony to a federal grand jury that he initially learned about the C.I.A. officer, Valerie Wilson, from journalists, the lawyers said. It would not be illegal for either Mr. Cheney or Mr. Libby, both of whom are presumably cleared to know the government's deepest secrets, to discuss a C.I.A. officer or her link to a critic of the administration. But any effort by Mr. Libby to steer investigators away from his conversation with Mr. Cheney could be considered by Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the special counsel in the case, to be an illegal effort to impede the inquiry.

4. Olbermann really took O'Really down on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me

Also had a hilarious story about his mom being hit by a foul ball at Yankee Stadium while he was doing Sportscenter. He jokingly said, that was probably my mom (a season ticket holder) when he heard an old lady got beaned. It was, but nobody believed him.

About O'Really, he said that Bill would never fuck with him because "I'm just as tall as he is. He goes after people like Terri Gross. Typical bully."

Then he told a story about Franken going after Pat Sajak on Celebrity Jeopardy and Olbermann having to hold him back. Said he's a STRONG little fuck.

Indictments Coming Tomorrow; Targets Received Letters Today

An uber-insider source has just reported the following to TWN:

1. 1-5 indictments are being issued. The source feels that it will be towards the higher end.
2. The targets of indictment have already received their letters.
3. The indictments will be sealed indictments and "filed" tomorrow.
4. A press conference is being scheduled for Thursday.

The shoe is dropping.

As pointed out by Walt Starr at Democratic Underground, one indictment can involve multiple defendants. Walt gives an example: "The AIPAC/Franklin indictment was a single indictment with five charges and three defendents. IT was all over one crime."

I don't agree that this line of speculatioin is likely, but it's one line of thinking to fill in the time while we wait to find out what Fitz is REALLY thinking.

Talking to Howard Fineman, and they are also asking who told Cheney. That's an important question, much discussed here at DU. (My vote is for Bolton and his creepy CIA-insider former toady Fleitz.) Here's one thread where this issue is discussed:
