CIA: Plame leak damaged US national security
by John in DC - 10/25/2005 05:58:00 PM

I just watched this on CNN this afternoon:

Wolf Blitzer: Does the CIA believe that there was damage done to US national security as a result of Valerie Plame Wilson's name being leaked?

David Ensor, CNN National Security Correspondent: I'm told that in the day that it was leaked there was a quick look done, as there routinely would be, at whether there was damage. Officials simply won't go into the details, but I did speak to one official who did say yes, there was damage, this woman had a long career and she was posing as someone else, and all those people who saw her now know that she wasn't the person they thought that they were dealing with.

This is treason.

3. Most certainly the project she was involved in at the time was ruined
and other possible projects she had been involved in were discredited.

Deaths could occur that we and even the CIA might never know about - of people who were secondarily or even tertiarily involved.

4. We may never find out.
If we found out that might reveal further links in the info chain, leading to still further damage. The info doesn't just reveal our operatives, it exposes our operatives contacts, people we get information from who may be put at risk if that were to become common knowledge. If we were told "10 operatives were exposed" and the bad guys only knew of 7...

One name might just be one name. Or it could be hundreds.

On a connected note, I wonder if any names have been added lately?

6. it outed the whole cover company she worked at, Brewster-Jennings

it was a whole network of agents and contacts, painstakingly developed for many years, that was affected.

I actually believe that the destruction of genuine WMD intelligence-gathering was one of the goals of the outing in the first place. They didn't want real intelligence, unwelcome FACTS, to interfere with the lies and propaganda.
