I am off tomorrow. What celebratory wine should I get?
I am going to celebrate the beginning of the end of the angry monkey man. I quit drinking a few years back, but I want to relish this day with a bit of wine. Any suggestions from my friends at DU?

3. Champagne
Cristal, Dom, the best you can afford.

Nothing says "celebration" like a good bottle of bubbly ...

7. acacia makes a very nice pinot noir.
my favorite cabernet is by a small winery called heitz.
if you go for chardonay -- think grgch -- it's grrrgood.

stags leap makes great merlots or pinot noirs. it's expensive -- but if you haven't had any in a while then maybe go for the gusto.

if you like light and fruity -- and if you can find it -- cakebread cellars makes a fabulous savignon blanc.

i'm trying to think of my favorite syrah -- but i'm drawing a blank or a blanc.

on the way less expensive side try something by fetzer -- a good winery with dependably drinkable reds -- not sophisticated -- but good.

10. I am personally a fan of the cheap stuff
So if your grocery store stocks Bolla Vapolicella, go nuts.

Usually less than 20 bucks for the big bottle, and also noted by "Commercial Appeal" as a "great wine for pizza."

Yeah, I'm trash:)

12. Back in the 70's I was a fan of Cold Duck
and I probably polished off quite a bit of that and other substances while watching the Watergate hearings. Too much = bad hangover and DON'T DARE MIX WITH OTHER ALCOHOLIC DRINKS.

...but since I can't do that, I'd suggest a rich, spicy Shiraz.

Wynn's Coonawara (Australia)

edited to add...it's Mumm, which I consider the "Toyota" of bubbly wines. Reasonably priced, reasonable taste. It's the event I'll be drinking to that adds that special sweet taste! MKJ

20. LOL...
I did hear, but I am not a fan of it. I guess my "elitist" side has not developed as well as my liberal side.

25. If you saw the movie sideways you would know "Merlot" is not elitists.
It is considered the "tang" of wines. Or some such thing.

18. How About a BRASS MONKEY?????
a small wooden cask in which grog was carried after issue from a grog-tub to the seamen's messes in the Royal Navy

Just a small cask will probably suffice....
